Infrastructure SWE Role at Runloop
Runloop.ai is building the foundational infrastructure for the next generation of AI development. We provide AI engineers and data scientists with lightning-fast, secure, and reproducible code sandboxes for agents. Our platform enables teams to experiment, iterate, and deploy their agents without the friction of environment setup and dependencies. We are a small but mighty team dedicated to building a rock-solid platform that empowers innovation in the age of AI.
The Role
We are looking for an infrastructure SWE to own the core systems that make AI agent workloads fast, safe, and reliable at Runloop. You'll be a hands-on contributor working directly with a world-class team — including the co-founder of Google Wallet and 100% of its founding team — on a brand new compute paradigm that powers the next generation of AI agents. This is foundational infrastructure work close to the metal: building execution environments, orchestration, isolation, and networking for enterprise customers in highly regulated spaces. You'll work on cutting-edge technologies like MicroVMs, Kubernetes, AWS, and GCP to create a robust, scalable, and secure foundation for our users' AI software engineering agents.
Responsibilities
Performance Optimization: Drive performance optimization across the platform — faster is always better, and this will be a constant focus area
Secure Enterprise Deployments: Build and scale secure VPC deployments for enterprise customers in highly regulated industries, including defense
Core Infrastructure: Design and operate core infrastructure for sandboxed execution environments, containerization, MicroVMs, and distributed job orchestration
Reliability & Observability: Own reliability, security, and observability of the systems you build — from design through monitoring and incident response
Platform Tooling: Work with Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, Pulumi, Grafana, and Prometheus to build infrastructure that scales with rapidly growing demand
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with product engineering teams to integrate infrastructure with Runloop's AI software engineering platform
Scalability & Cost-Efficiency: Optimize infrastructure for performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency
Continuous Learning: Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in cloud infrastructure and AI technologies

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
4-7 years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on infrastructure and platform development
Strong experience with MicroVMs, Kubernetes, AWS, and GCP
Experience building and scaling secure VPC deployments, ideally for enterprise customers in regulated or defense environments
Proficiency with Docker, including Docker-in-Docker container builds
Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools, such as Terraform or Pulumi
Experience with observability and monitoring tooling, such as Grafana and Prometheus
Proficiency in one or more systems programming languages, such as Golang, Rust, or Java
Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools, such as CI/CD pipelines and configuration management
Excellent problem-solving skills and a passion for building scalable, reliable systems
Bonus Points
Experience with AI/ML workloads and infrastructure
Experience in container optimization with projects like overlaybd, buildkit, or discoball
Experience with security best practices and compliance requirements for cloud infrastructure in regulated or defense industries
Contributions to open-source projects
Benefits
Competitive salary and equity
Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance for employee and dependents
Opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology and make a real impact on the future of software engineering
Daily catered lunch for all employees and a fridge full of your favorite snacks and drinks
Location:
Onsite 4 days a week in San Francisco; Optional 1 day a week remote
