Major Responsibilities:
Provide specialized care for patients with complex conditions, collaborating closely with physicians to enhance therapeutic outcomes and address advanced care needs.
Actively identify potential issues within treatment plans and advocate for patients, working with physicians and other healthcare professionals to optimize care.
Serve as a clinical and departmental resource, mentoring and guiding other athletic trainers. Support staff development by assisting in training, competency assessments, and clinical guideline creation.
Promote and lead the development of new rehabilitation and wellness programs. Engage in community education events, expanding outreach and fostering community partnerships to support health awareness and service utilization.
Conduct injury evaluations and refer patients to appropriate healthcare resources. Effectively communicate with patients on self-care, prevention, and treatment techniques.
Establish treatment plans based on patient evaluations and health goals. Continuously monitor and adjust treatment to align with patient responses and evolving needs. Can direct athletes in performance enhancement programs for fitness or injury prevention.
Ensure patient comfort by addressing physical and emotional factors, demonstrating cultural sensitivity and adaptability to diverse patient needs.
Manage patient discharge by providing home care instructions, family education, and community resource referrals, ensuring a seamless transition of care.
Accurately complete all required documentation in alignment with department policies, including patient assessments, progress notes, billing, and scheduling, ensuring compliance with insurance guidelines.
Ensure the treatment area remains clean, organized, and safe for patients and staff, with responsibility for equipment upkeep.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
Current Athletic Training certification by the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer (BOC).
Currently licensed or eligible for Athletic Trainer license issued by the state in which the teammate practices within 30 days of hire.
Ability to complete American Heart Association Healthcare Provider (BLS), which includes CPR and AED training within 30 days of hire.
Education Required:
Bachelor's degree in athletic training from a Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) program.
Experience Required:
Typically requires 4 years of experience in athletic training, health, physical education, or exercise science, including experience working with athletes.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to include communicating with physicians, staff, community partners, and other patients/customers related to sports medicine.
Demonstrated ability to work on a multidisciplinary team to effectively treat and understand the needs of the sports medicine patients.
Demonstrated ability to independently make sound decisions regarding problems or operational issues.
Strong writing and organizational skills.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Must be able to:
lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist.
Lift up to 10 lbs. from waist to overhead.
Lift and carry up to 40 lbs. at waist height a reasonable distance.
Must be able to:
push/pull with 30 lbs. of force.
Perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
Exposed to normal office environment.
Must have ability to work flexible schedule and in an environment that varies from office to outside temperatures/varying outdoor environments.
Position requires travel so will be exposed to weather and road conditions.
Ability to perform fine manipulation for dressing and massage applications.
Must frequently walk, assist and lift patient(s) as needed.
Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
Exposed to electrical and chemical hazards as well as blood and bodily fluids and is thus required to wear protective apparel as necessary.
