About Woodside Energy and Sangomar

Woodside Energy is the operator of the Sangomar field, Senegal’s first offshore oil development, which achieved first production in 2024. The initial phase of development includes 12 production wells, 10 water injectors, and 2 gas injectors, tied back via subsea infrastructure to a Floating Production Storage and Offloading facility with ~100,000 barrels of oil per day capacity.

Sangomar represents a strategic, high-impact asset in an emerging hydrocarbon basin, offering direct exposure to reservoir management, production optimisation, and future development phases. The asset provides an opportunity to work within a multicultural, high-performing team across Dakar and Houston, while contributing to Senegal’s energy future and long-term resource development.

About the Opportunity

An exciting opportunity exists to join the Sangomar Subsurface team based in Dakar, Senegal.

The Subsurface team is responsible for the delivery of all subsurface production and development activities, including:

Reservoir management and surveillance

Production forecasting and optimisation

Field development planning

Reserves and resources evaluation

Engagement with joint venture partners and the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum

The team operates across Dakar and Houston, Texas, requiring strong collaboration across locations and disciplines.

Role Overview

The Reservoir Engineer will support short- to medium-term production forecasting, reservoir management, and production optimisation, while contributing to subsurface deliverables and external stakeholder engagements.

Key responsibilities include:

Develop and maintain integrated reservoir models to support optimisation and development decisions

Deliver short- and medium-term production forecasts across the uncertainty range

Support history matching using field performance and surveillance data

Prepare subsurface inputs to the annual budget, aligned with operational assumptions

Contribute to reservoir management plans, surveillance strategies, and subsurface work programmes

Support production optimisation in close collaboration with Production Engineering

Provide input to well prioritisation and performance targets

Participate in joint venture and government technical engagements, presenting reservoir insights and forecasts

Support collaboration with Petrosen and Ministry stakeholders

Contribute to future development studies and optimisation of future development phase opportunities

Perform technical evaluations of wellwork and intervention opportunities

Support well integrity monitoring and performance tracking

About You

Legal right to work in Senegal

Degree in Petroleum, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or related discipline

7+ years’ experience in the oil and gas industry with strong reservoir engineering exposure

Demonstrated experience in reservoir modelling and integrated system analysis

Experience in production forecasting and reservoir management

Exposure to cross-functional collaboration (subsurface, operations, wells)

Strong communication skills, with ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Mentoring or coaching experience is advantageous

Fluent in English
