General Description: This position performs all activities required to safely operate a school bus or county vehicle transporting students and other authorized personnel to and from schools and school-related events.
Essential Responsibilities:
Safely transports students on an assigned/unassigned route according to a definite time schedule
Provides transportation for field trips, other sanctioned outings, athletic contests, and extracurricular events
Performs pre-trip inspection in accordance with Division and CDL protocols - which includes but is not limited to - fuel, oil, water, lights, brakes and steering checks
Regulates heating and ventilating equipment provided on bus for comfort of passengers
Takes appropriate safety precautions when students are boarding and departing
Maintains a safe environment within the bus by enforcing rules of conduct, responding to emergencies, and reporting cases of misbehavior to appropriate administrators within the school building and Transportation Department
Operates vehicle in compliance with all traffic and safety laws and regulations, exhibits defensive driving skills, and observes posted speed limits and other traffic laws
Prepares for and implements emergency evacuations to include assisting students to evacuate the bus and providing safe transport
Immediately reports all crashes/accidents to Transportation Supervisor
Keeps accurate records of mileage, passenger numbers, and any other documentation required
Keeps bus clean and orderly
Identifies needs and arranges for necessary bus repairs and maintenance
Performs other related duties, as assigned
Applicant must provide a good driving record with application.
Applicant must be 21 years of age or older.
This is a 180 day part-time position and does not include benefits.
