Position Overview
The Business and Employment Centre is recruiting on behalf of one of our clients for the role of Dental Assistant. The dental assistant assists dentists and other providers of dental services with the actual delivery of the service. This includes preparing dental operatories, cleaning dental equipment and instruments, operating specialised dental equipment (such as X-ray machines) and performing basic dental procedures (such as suctioning and making up dental preparations).
It also includes greeting patients, explaining what is being done to them, answering their questions, and helping to make them comfortable.
Key Responsibilities
Preparing the room for incoming patients
Performing maintenance procedures for equipment and instruments
Keeping dental tools & equipment properly sorted
Taking X-rays and other dental images
Updating the computerised patient management system
Taking patients medical information
Explaining dental procedures to patients
Assisting dentists and other providers with their manual procedures
Going through post-visit procedures with patients
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education
At least five CXC certificates at CSEC level, or 5 O levels. This should include English.
Experience
None required, but at least two years working in a team environment would be an asset.
Skills and Competencies
Must be computer literate, able to use basic programs such as email and Ms/word, and able to print and scan from a computer.
Must be able to maintain confidentiality at all times.
Must be extraverted and have a friendly personality.
Must not be afraid of blood.
Must be able to learn how to use specialised tools and equipment.
Must be able to learn the basic dental terms and concepts
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Desired skills and Qualities
Training in nursing or dental assisting would be an asset.
Experience performing a technical role in a medical or dental institution would be an asset.
