Job Summary

The primary functions of the CNC Machine Operator are to operate and load bars into multi axis, turning, CNC machines in a productive, high quality, and safe manner. Part quality and production is the focus of their job. They are also responsible for maintaining safe, clean machines and work environment.

Essential Functions

CNC Machine Operators must have functional understanding on how to read engineering drawings

Understand and confirm proper paperwork, tools, gages, and bar stock material are present for the job

Inspect parts using the visual comparator, caliper, eye loop, appropriate gages, and instruments ensuring machine is producing accurate, quality parts

Perform visual inspection of parts for burrs, chatters, chamfer irregularities, hexes, surface finish, etc. always confirming with engineering print and first part inspection sample

Perform secondary operations as required such as material lot code stamping, part number identification stamping, & de-burring

Record data of part inspections, bars used, problems, and production quantities

Load bar stock into machines and record all information including heat changes in records and work order control system

Maintain machines by keeping machines clear of chips and reporting oil leaks

Properly clean parts using the aqueous degreasing machines making sure parts are free of surface oil and lodged chips

Maintain a clean working environment by cleaning the floor with degreasing solution and floor vacuum, emptying the vacuum into the dirty oily water tote as needed and removing any potential hazards for the work environment

Use proper liquids for cleaning areas such as flooring, and other

Communicate problems to the CNC Operators Supervisor with suggestions for solutions

Change tools, make machine adjustments and offsets as necessary

Safely remove bar stock from cantilever racks

Ability to run multiple machines at once while maintaining production levels, quality parts, and a clean and safe environment

Follow all company safety and environmental policies and procedures

Perform the job with minimal supervision

Perform other assignments as required

CNC Machine Operators can bring their own caliper and or eye loupe for approval and calibration or can purchase either through the company.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Skills:

High School Diploma or equivalent

Working experience with calipers, comparators, depth micrometer, surface finish tester

Basic Math Skills (measuring, use of calculator)

Ability to use measuring instruments such as calipers, comparators, depth micrometer, surface finish tester

Ability to read and comprehend work-related materials, instructions, and documentation written in English

Ability to communicate effectively in English with team members, supervisors, and others

Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions provided in English

Ability to understand and complete verbal and written training materials presented in English

Must be able to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written and verbal instructions

Prior CNC Machine Operator work experience or Manufacturing Certification a plus

Experience on turning lathe machinery such as Haas, Mori Seiki, and / or Star CNC Machinery a PLUS!

Physical Demands

Must frequently lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 75 pounds

When performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands to finger or handle or feel objects and tools or controls and talk or hear

Employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms

Employee is occasionally required to walk

Specific vision abilities require close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

CNC Machine Operator may work near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to vibration

Work in a machine shop environment where floors may be slippery due to oil spills, use of aqueous degreasing solution for floor cleanup, and metal chips

Noise level is usually moderate for a manufacturing plant

Work where a forklift is being operated
