A New Kind of Media Network

The Voice Up Media Network is being built as a first-of-its-kind media network organized around one central mission:

We connect people to purpose.

Most media networks begin with a subject—news, sports, music, business, or entertainment.

Voice Up begins somewhere different.

We begin with people and purpose.

We believe every person has experiences, interests, talents, ideas, history, and stories that can contribute something meaningful to the world. Our goal is to create a network where those voices can be discovered, developed, connected, preserved, and shared.

This is not simply a network people watch. It is a network people can help build.

Participants do not simply consume media. They research, create, participate, and share what matters to them alongside people who care about similar things.

Who We Are Recruiting

Voice Up intentionally looks beyond traditional definitions of who belongs in media. Students from virtually any academic discipline may apply, including undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, medical, and professional students.

We are especially interested in student athletes, journalists and storytellers, historians and researchers, nurses and future healthcare professionals, innovators and entrepreneurs, future leaders, creative artists, and musicians.

Student Athletes can explore athletics, leadership, mental health, identity, career transition, community impact, and life beyond competition.

Journalists and Storytellers can investigate stories, conduct interviews, develop features, produce multimedia content, and create purpose-centered journalism that asks not only What happened? but also Why does it matter? Whose perspective is missing? What can people learn?

Historians and Researchers can recover overlooked stories, document communities, conduct oral histories, explore cultural traditions, and preserve histories that might otherwise disappear. History does not have to remain inside an archive. Through media, it can become a living resource connecting generations.

Nurses and Future Health Leaders can translate knowledge about public health, behavioral health, prevention, wellness, healthcare innovation, patient experiences, and community health into stories people can understand and use.

Innovators, Entrepreneurs, and Future Leaders can help build the network itself—developing new shows, digital platforms, campus networks, audience strategies, publications, partnerships, and responsible applications of artificial intelligence.

Creative Artists and Musicians can use music, visual art, photography, film, poetry, dance, design, and other forms of expression to explore culture, history, identity, health, belonging, community, and purpose.

What Could You Create?

There is no single required media product. Your work could become a feature story, podcast, interview series, documentary concept, historical investigation, oral-history project, sports and leadership series, health education project, student-athlete platform, music or arts series, campus publication, digital magazine, photo essay, video series, cultural-history project, public or behavioral health feature, AI-supported media innovation, new Voice Up show—or something that does not exist yet.

You Are Joining at the Beginning

The Voice Up Media Network is being built now.

You are not joining a 50-year-old organization where every role has already been defined. Early participants can influence the stories we cover, histories we preserve, audiences we serve, shows we create, voices we elevate, partnerships we establish, technology we use, and even what the network eventually becomes.

You are not simply being trained to fit into an existing system. You are helping create the system.

The Eight-Week Experience

Weeks 1–2: Discover

Explore the Voice Up mission, different forms of media and storytelling, and the issues, histories, communities, or creative ideas that matter most to you.

Weeks 3–4: Define

Identify your audience, story, project, and purpose. Ask: Who needs to hear this? Why does it matter? Whose story has not been told? What would make this useful?

Week 5: Connect

Share your developing idea with fellows, mentors, professionals, creators, and students across disciplines. Athletes learn from historians. Historians learn from nurses. Nurses learn from journalists. Entrepreneurs learn from musicians. Different perspectives become connected.

Weeks 6–7: Build

Research. Interview. Write. Record. Design. Investigate. Create. Test. Edit. Refine.

Week 8: Share

Present what you created and explore how it can continue through the Voice Up Media Network.

The goal is to leave with something tangible.

Not simply something you studied. Something you made.

What We Are Looking For

Your major is not the most important qualification.

Your curiosity is.

We are looking for people willing to listen carefully, ask good questions, collaborate, research before reaching conclusions, respect different perspectives, explore history, experiment with new ideas, and use their talents in service of something larger than themselves.

You do not need to arrive knowing exactly what your purpose is.

Discovering that may be part of the experience.

Media influences what people notice. What people notice influences what they value. And what people value influences what they choose to do.

Voice Up Media Network is being created around the belief that media can do more than capture attention.

It can help people discover what matters.

Voice Up Media Network

Built by people.

Powered by participation.

Preserving stories.

Creating what comes next.

Focused on purpose.

We connect people to purpose.

Three years after his mother's funeral, a mathematics teacher from small-town Alabama roots was standing in a room at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, invited to speak about closing the digital divide for low-income students — a fact that Fuller does not narrate as triumph so much as evidence, the first hard data point in what would become, over the following quarter-century, an entire personal methodology for converting loss into documented output. He calls this stretch of his life a multiplication table rather than a résumé line, and the distinction matters: a résumé records what happened to a person. A multiplication table records what a person did with it, and how far it spread.

None of this, in 1999, pointed obviously toward a digital video cassette sitting in a drawer for more than twenty years. Fuller went on to build a career in education administration, then in behavioral-health leadership in Indiana, rising eventually to run one of the largest single divisions inside a major community mental-health organization. He was, by every outward measure available to a stranger meeting him at a conference table, a competent, unremarkable, mid-career health-care executive. What almost no one around that table knew — what he had not yet fully told even himself — was that the operating system underneath all of it had been assembled, piece by piece, by a woman in Lowndes County who never called it a system, and confirmed, word by word, on a recording he had not yet found the reason to play.
