Insulation Technician

Blown Right Insulation is a growing insulation company looking for an experienced Insulation Technician to join our team.

Our current workload consists primarily of residential retrofit projects, including attic insulation, insulation removal, air sealing, ventilation improvements, and wall insulation. However, our technicians may also work on residential new construction, additions, remodels, multifamily properties, and commercial insulation projects as our company continues to grow.

We are looking for someone with previous insulation and attic experience who understands that insulation work can involve much more than simply blowing material into an attic. Depending on the project, technicians may perform removal, air sealing, ventilation, batt installation, blown insulation, dense packing, net-and-blow, wet-spray cellulose, foam board installation, and other building-envelope work.

As a small and growing company, our workload and project types can vary. We are looking for someone who is comfortable with that environment and wants the opportunity to grow with the company.

Compensation

This position is paid based on the total applicable square footage of each completed job:

Insulation Installation: $0.15 per sq. ft.

Insulation Removal: $0.20 per sq. ft.

Example – 1,000 Sq. Ft. Removal & Installation

Insulation removal: $200

New insulation installation: $150

Total production pay: $350

Compensation is production-based rather than based on a guaranteed number of weekly hours. Actual earnings will depend on project size, project type, workload, and the number of scheduled projects.

Work Schedule & Job Volume

This is a variable-schedule position. Candidates should understand that the number and size of projects can change from week to week and throughout the year.

Our current workload typically averages approximately 3–5 projects per week from April through August. During our busier season, generally September through March, workload may increase to approximately 5–8 projects per week.

These numbers are provided to give applicants a realistic understanding of our current workload and are not a guarantee of a specific number of projects, hours, or weekly earnings.

As the company grows, project volume and the types of projects we perform may also change.

Types of Work

Technicians may work on:

Existing residential homes and retrofit projects

Attic insulation and removal projects

Residential additions and remodels

Residential new construction

Multifamily properties

Commercial buildings and projects

Other insulation and building-envelope projects performed by the company

Installation Responsibilities

Depending on the project, technicians may perform the following:

Install blown-in fiberglass and cellulose insulation in attics and other approved applications.

Install fiberglass and mineral wool batt insulation in walls, ceilings, attics, floors, knee walls, and other assemblies.

Install dense-pack cellulose in existing wall and ceiling cavities using drill-and-fill and other approved methods.

Install net-and-blow insulation systems in open wall and ceiling cavities.

Install wet-spray cellulose in open wall assemblies.

Measure, cut, fit, and install rigid foam board insulation.

Install insulation to specified depths, densities, coverage requirements, and R-values.

Properly fit insulation around framing, electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems, and other obstructions.

Follow company installation standards and manufacturer specifications.

Insulation Removal

Technicians may also perform insulation removal projects, including:

Remove old, damaged, contaminated, or improperly installed insulation.

Operate commercial insulation removal vacuums, hoses, and related equipment.

Work in existing attics containing fiberglass, cellulose, dust, debris, and other materials commonly encountered during insulation removal.

Bag, contain, and dispose of insulation and debris properly.

Prepare work areas for air sealing and installation of new insulation.

Protect finished areas of the customer's property from dust, debris, and damage.

Air Sealing & Ventilation

Our projects frequently include building-envelope improvements in addition to insulation.

Responsibilities may include:

Air seal top plates, plumbing penetrations, electrical penetrations, wiring penetrations, chases, and other air leakage points.

Properly seal around appropriate ceiling penetrations and fixtures.

Install and weatherstrip insulated attic accesses.

Install soffit ventilation baffles/chutes and maintain proper airflow into attic spaces.

Install insulation dams and blocking where required.

Assist with soffit, ridge, roof, and other attic ventilation systems included within the project scope.

Identify and report potential insulation, moisture, air-sealing, and ventilation concerns to the Site Supervisor.

Job-Site Responsibilities

Load and unload trucks and trailers with materials, tools, and equipment required for each project.

Set up and operate insulation blowers, removal vacuums, hoses, generators, ladders, and other equipment.

Protect floors, walls, furniture, driveways, landscaping, and other customer property before beginning work.

Work alongside the Site Supervisor and other technicians to complete projects safely and efficiently.

Safely operate drills, saws, utility knives, caulking guns, staplers, and other hand and power tools.

Measure and cut insulation materials accurately.

Maintain a clean and organized work area throughout the project.

Complete job-site cleanup before leaving.

Help maintain company tools, equipment, trucks, trailers, and hoses.

Communicate professionally with customers, supervisors, coworkers, builders, contractors, and other trades.

Follow company safety, installation, quality-control, and customer-service standards.

Experience & Qualifications

Previous insulation experience is strongly preferred.

Because a significant portion of our current business involves existing homes, applicants with residential attic and retrofit insulation experience are especially encouraged to apply.

Experience with any of the following is valuable:

Blown-in fiberglass and cellulose

Fiberglass and mineral wool batts

Insulation removal

Attic air sealing

Soffit baffles and attic ventilation

Dense-pack cellulose

Drill-and-fill applications

Net-and-blow systems

Wet-spray cellulose

Foam board installation

Insulation blowers and removal vacuums

Residential new construction

Commercial or multifamily insulation

Candidates should also:

Be comfortable working in attics, crawl spaces, confined spaces, new construction, and active job sites.

Be able to work in hot and cold conditions.

Be physically capable of climbing ladders, crawling, bending, lifting materials and equipment, and performing manual labor for extended periods.

Have experience safely using hand and power tools.

Have strong attention to detail and take pride in quality workmanship.

Be dependable and communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers.

Be professional and respectful while working in occupied homes and around customers.

Have reliable transportation to the required meeting or job location.

Be willing to learn and follow Blown Right Insulation's installation and quality-control standards.

What to Expect

Insulation work can be physically demanding. Depending on the project, technicians may work in existing attics and crawl spaces, occupied homes, new construction, multifamily buildings, or commercial properties.

Existing-home projects may involve heat, cold, dust, old insulation, tight access areas, and physically demanding working conditions. Applicants should be comfortable with these conditions before accepting the position.

Our schedule is based on customer demand and available projects, so weekly hours and earnings may vary. This position is best suited for someone who understands a production-based work environment and is comfortable with a variable schedule.
