Dialysis TechnicianJob Title: Dialysis TechnicianPrepares dialysate according to established procedures and patient prescription.

Obtains and documents pre-dialysis vital signs, including weight and temperature.

Inspects patient dialysis access and initiates dialysis according to unit protocol.

Measures, calculates, and adjusts blood flow rates according to established protocols and prescription.

Administers anticoagulant according to unit protocols and prescription.

Monitors vital signs and patient condition, documenting observations appropriately.

Documents patient treatment parameters and communicates patient conditions to registered nurses.

Monitors patients and equipment, responding to alarms and readjusting treatment parameters as needed.

Responds appropriately to dialysis-related emergencies and initiates CPR in emergencies.

Discontinues dialysis, establishes hemostasis, and inspects, cleans, and dresses access according to protocols.

Obtains and records post-dialysis vital signs, including weight and temperature.

Prepares fluid samples or other specimens for testing and shipping.

Discards dialysis supplies and sanitizes the equipment according to protocols.

Communicates patient emotional, medical, psychosocial, and nutritional concerns to registered nurses when needed.

Under the direction of a registered nurse, monitors the status of vascular accesses and instructs patients.

Reinforces treatment care with the patient.

Ensures patients have adequate care supplies and monitors inventories.

Assists nursing staff in administering basic treatments, including hemodialysis therapy.

Maintains professional conduct and confidentiality in patient care.

Participates in multidisciplinary processes.

Reviews lab work and physician orders.

Performs basic clinical procedures, such as changing bandages.

Readies dialysis equipment before treatment and cares for it after treatment.

Tests monitor and machine functions, including alarms, conductivity, and temperature.

Completes flow sheets in electronic medical records to verify patient billing.

Complies with agency policies and procedures for patient care and services.

Participates in quality assurance and cost containment programs.

Participates in individual and group projects as directed by management.
