Custodian Position

John Stark Regional High School is seeking a full-time 2nd shift custodian to work Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week. Experience is preferred. Please contact the Director of Facilities,, for more information.

Job Title: Custodian

Position Goal: To provide students, staff and the public with a safe, clean, healthy, attractive, comfortable and efficient place in which to learn, play and develop.

Reports to: Facilities Lead

Equipment Used: Current technology

Qualifications:

Produce a certificate of good health signed by licensed physician;

Ability to read and follow basic operating instructions;

Ability to write reports;

Demonstrate aptitude for successful completion of tasks assigned;

Ability to be accurate, meet deadlines, and have effective oral and written communication skills;

Demonstrate up-to-date knowledge of rules, regulations, policies, and procedures;

Ability to work in groups and committees;

Hold valid driver's license; and

Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Participate in the cleaning and maintenance of building, equipment and grounds;

Participate in necessary painting and general repairs to plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and of general mechanical areas;

Assist in set-up needs for school activities including meetings, dances, sports events, theater and music productions, public hearings and graduation;

Replace and repair broken windows, screens, and doors;

Assist general mechanics in remodeling and renovation work;

Maintain school grounds and property;

Assist in snow removal and in sanding walkways, driveways, parking areas, and steps, as appropriate;

Conduct daily checks to ensure that all exit doors are open and that all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy;

Prepare requisitions and receives supplies and equipment and maintains necessary inventories;

Assume responsibility for the general security and fire safety of all school buildings;

Assume responsibility for moving of furniture, supplies, and equipment as required;

Keep building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean at all times;

Follow the appropriate guidelines for usage, proper care, raising and lowering of the American Flag;

Clean corridors after each school day, and during the day when warranted;

Scrub, wash, and disinfect restroom floors as well as cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily;

Wash all windows on both the inside and outside at least twice each year, and more frequently if necessary;

Keep the ground free from rubbish;

Perform such yard keeping chores (grass cutting, tree trimming, etc.) as necessary to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition;

Keep all floors in a clean and attractive condition;

Report equipment malfunctions and unsafe building and grounds conditions promptly to the principal or supervisor;

Remain on the school premises during scheduled work hours;

Maintain strict confidentiality regarding students and employees of the school; and

Perform all other duties associated with the overall facility management as determined by the administration.

Evaluation: Performance of these responsibilities will be evaluated annually by the Principal or his/her designee.
