Position: Teaching Assistant
Position Summary
Wayland Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and nurturing Teaching Assistant to join our team. This role is ideal for an educator who thrives in a collaborative environment and is passionate about supporting the academic, social, and emotional growth of adolescent learners.
Duties and Responsibilities (Not Limited To)
Knowledge of the developmental needs of preadolescents and adolescents, including their academic, social, and emotional needs
Experience in special education and supporting students with diverse learning needs
Provide academic support to students with special needs in both specialized and general education settings
Support access to curriculum in English Language Arts, science, social studies, and mathematics
Adapt and scaffold instructional materials to meet individual student needs
Assist students in organizing and managing academic workload and classroom participation
Support student participation in classroom routines and activities
Collaborate with classroom teachers and support staff to implement instructional and behavioral supports
Monitor and support students’ academic, social, and emotional development
Participate in training to support student physical and/or behavioral needs
Work collaboratively with school and district staff to ensure equitable access to learning
Contribute as a collaborative member of the Student Services team
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma required; bachelor's degree preferred.
Experience: Previous experience working with middle school students is highly preferred.
Cultural Competency: Experience working with diverse populations and a strong commitment to Wayland Public Schools' goals of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
Professionalism: Strong communication skills and the personal characteristics necessary to serve as a positive role model for students.
Education and Experience
Associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred
DESE licensure not required; paraprofessional certification preferred
SEI Endorsement not required
Work Schedule and Compensation
Hours: 32 hours per week
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 8:40 a.m. – 3:15 p.m.
Wednesday: 8:40 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Salary: $23.63 – $30.29 per hour
