Job Title: MS Power BI Developer / BI Analyst
Location: Philippines - Remote
Hours: 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM U.S. Eastern Time, M-F
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Microsoft Power BI Developer / Business Intelligence Analyst to support internal reporting, analytics, and dashboard development initiatives across our organization.
This resource will work closely with the Operations Manager to transform financial, operational, and business data into useful, actionable dashboards within our Microsoft Power BI environment. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in an environment where requirements may initially be incomplete or loosely defined and will be expected to actively participate in the requirements-development process.
Rather than simply receiving a completed specification and building a report, this individual should be capable of understanding the underlying business question, evaluating available data, asking appropriate questions, recommending approaches, and working iteratively with the Operations Manager to develop a Minimum Viable Product (MVP). The dashboard can then be refined and expanded based on user feedback and evolving business requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
• Design, develop, deploy, and maintain Microsoft Power BI dashboards and reports for financial,
• operational, and management reporting.
• Work directly with the Operations Manager to identify business requirements, KPIs, reporting needs, and appropriate dashboard designs.
• Translate ambiguous or high-level business requests into defined reporting requirements and workable technical solutions.
• Rapidly develop MVP dashboards and refine them through an iterative development and feedback process.
• Connect Power BI to multiple data sources and assist with data extraction, transformation, modeling, and validation.
• Develop effective Power BI data models, relationships, measures, calculations, and KPIs. Create and maintain DAX measures and use Power Query/M for data preparation and transformation.
• Identify data-quality issues, inconsistencies, and gaps that could affect reporting accuracy. Validate dashboard results against source financial and operational information.
• Develop dashboards that allow management to quickly identify trends, exceptions, performance issues, and opportunities.
• Recommend improved ways to present or analyze data rather than simply reproducing existing reports.
• Document data sources, calculations, assumptions, and dashboard logic sufficiently for future maintenance.
• Assist with publishing, permissions, refresh schedules, and ongoing management of reports within the company's Microsoft 365/Power BI environment.
Desired Technical Experience:
• The successful candidate should have demonstrated experience with:
o Microsoft Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service Power BI within a Microsoft 365 business environment DAX
o Power Query / M
o Data modeling and relational data concepts Dashboard and KPI design
o Data cleansing and transformation Excel and Microsoft 365
o Financial and/or operational reporting
o Working with data from multiple systems and sources
• Experience working with accounting or financial data is strongly preferred. Familiarity with concepts such as revenue, expenses, gross profit, margins, accounts receivable, job/project profitability, budgets, and variance analysis would be particularly valuable.
• Experience integrating Power BI with sources such as Excel, SharePoint, Microsoft Lists, SQL databases, APIs, accounting systems, or other line-of-business applications is also desirable.
Working Style / Candidate Profile:
This position requires more than technical Power BI skills. We are specifically looking for someone who:
• Is comfortable receiving an initial request that may be incomplete or ambiguous.
• Knows how to ask questions to determine what management is actually trying to measure or accomplish.
• Can work collaboratively with a business/operations leader who understands the desired outcome but may not have a formal BI or data-development background.
• Can independently investigate available data and propose solutions.
• Understands the difference between producing a report and creating a dashboard that helps management make decisions.
• Is comfortable with an iterative/MVP approach rather than waiting for every requirement to be finalized before beginning development.
• Can communicate technical concepts in understandable business terms.
• Is detail-oriented and places a high priority on data accuracy and reconciliation.
• Is comfortable working independently while providing regular progress updates and demonstrations.
Ideal Candidate:
• An ideal candidate would have several years of hands-on Power BI/Business Intelligence experience and be able to demonstrate dashboards they have personally developed from initial business requirements through deployment.
• During the interview process, candidates should be prepared to discuss specific examples where they:
o Received an unclear or loosely defined reporting request.
o Worked with business stakeholders to determine the actual requirements.
o Identified and combined appropriate data sources.
o Developed an initial MVP dashboard.
o Validated the underlying data and calculations.
o Improved the dashboard through stakeholder feedback.
o Ultimately delivered a dashboard that was actively used for business or management decision- making.
Primary objective: We are looking for a resource who can take business questions and raw operational or financial data and turn them into reliable, actionable Power BI dashboards—not simply someone who can build visualizations from a completed specification.
