Intermediate Learning Systems Developer
The Learning Systems team within the Office of Technology and Digital Innovation provides reliable and effective academic technology resources that support teaching, learning, and the documentation of educational activities for OSU students, faculty, and staff. This position works within the Learning Systems (LS) Software Development Team, which is responsible for designing, developing, and managing innovative enterprise-wide applications and data integrations used by more than 80,000 students, faculty, and staff.
The eLearning Systems Developer – Intermediate works independently and collaboratively with other developers on projects with enterprise-wide impact, leveraging AI tools and existing skills to streamline workflow automation, research, and code drafting. The eLearning Systems Developer - Intermediate works with members of the LS team as well as other teams and will develop a deep understanding of academic organizational structures and processes to assist in designing, developing, and deploying solutions that meet established industry standards.
The position also provides ongoing daily support and incident resolution for all applications and associated issues and will be expected to be available for off-hours incident resolution and planned maintenance activities. The eLearning Systems Developer – Intermediate both supports and provides leadership for initiatives involving the design, development, and maintenance of scalable applications and data integrations.
The position uses solid design principles, AI-assisted development practices supported by robust human oversight and quality assurance, integration development, and the implementation of containerized continuous integration systems to deliver requirements-driven, data-rich solutions in alignment with the organizational mission and goals.
Required Education and Experience:
Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Frontend Development: 2 years of experience building responsive, accessible web applications using React.js, TypeScript, HTML5, and modern CSS layout models (Flexbox, Grid, Tailwind CSS).
Backend Development & APIs: Hands-on experience developing enterprise applications using ASP.NET Core (.NET 8+), Entity Framework Core (EF Core), and building/integrating RESTful Web APIs.
Database Management: 1-2 years of experience working with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MSSQL) or in-memory/NoSQL datastores (Redis).
Version Control: Proficiency with version control (Git).
AI-Augmented Engineering: Practical experience utilizing AI developer tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, ChatGPT, Kiro CLI) for code generation, refactoring, unit testing, and documentation.
Code Integrity: Strong foundation in software engineering best practices.
Desired Education and Experience:
Modern Frontend Tooling: Familiarity with modern build pipelines, package managers, and developer extensions (Webpack, Vite, npm/pnpm, NuGet, ESLint, Cursor, Kiro).
Automated Testing: Knowledge of modern testing frameworks (Jest, Vitest, React Testing Library, Playwright), including leveraging AI tools to rapidly generate, mock, and expand test coverage.
UI/UX & Prototyping: Practical understanding of UX/UI theory, accessibility best practices (WCAG), and user-centered design, with experience using Figma (and AI design workflows) to translate design components into code.
Frontend Optimization: Experience using AI assistants for rapid frontend debugging, performance profiling, and architectural refactoring.
DevOps: Working knowledge of containerization platforms (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines.
Agentic AI: Effective prompt engineering and human-in-the-loop oversight to audit AI-generated code for security, efficiency, and quality.

Additional Information:
The Targeted Hiring Range for this position is $70,100.00 - $80,925 and the offer for this position will be based on internal equity and the candidate's qualifications.
