Database Architect / Software Developer
Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Database Architect / Software Developer to support a federal program focused on national bridge and tunnel inspection systems, mission-critical infrastructure data, and enterprise-level web and database applications. This position is onsite in Ashburn, VA with a compressed work schedule available. The Database Architect / Software Developer will support the design, development, testing, and maintenance of software applications and database systems.
Responsibilities for the Database Architect / Software Developer include:
Design, develop, test, and maintain web-based and Windows-based applications supporting bridge inspection data.
Enhance and maintain the FLH Bridge Data Management Web System and internal FHWA intranet applications.
Develop database applications aligned with NBIS, NTIS, and NTI federal inspection standards.
Install, configure, patch, tune, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, and Microsoft Access databases.
Create and optimize triggers, procedures, packages, and SQL statements to improve system performance.
Perform data migration, backup and recovery, performance monitoring, and capacity planning.
Generate and maintain Section 508-compliant reports and maps using Crystal Reports, Power BI, and GIS tools.
Support software integration, troubleshoot issues, and ensure compliance with federal security requirements.
Maintain documentation including schemas, data models, data dictionaries, and software engineering standards.
Participate in bridge inspection field trips (up to 25% travel) for data collection and QA/QC.
Required Qualifications for the Database Architect / Software Developer include:
Experience developing software using ASP.NET MVC, Classic ASP, VB.NET, Visual Studio, and Python.
Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, and Microsoft Access database administration.
Proficiency with HTML/XHTML, JavaScript, jQuery, CSS, XML, JSON, and VBA/Macro programming.
Knowledge of database design, object-oriented programming, and relational database management.
Experience installing, patching, tuning, and maintaining databases on Windows servers.
Familiarity with NBIS, NTIS, or federal inspection data systems (SDMS, PONTIS, BrM, AssetWise).
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
Ability to travel up to 25% for field inspection support.
Compensation for the Database Architect / Software Developer includes:
Salary Range: $90,000 - $100,000
