Job Summary: Senior Java Developer (GCP) - Contract Columbus, OH (Remote/Onsite)

About the Role Join a high-performing engineering team as a Senior Java Backend Developer focused on building scalable, secure, and resilient microservices on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Collaborate with technology leaders to deliver enterprise-grade APIs and event-driven cloud-native applications using cutting-edge Java technologies. Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain RESTful APIs and microservices using Java 17+, Spring Boot, and Spring Cloud

Architect and implement cloud-native applications leveraging GCP services such as GKE, Pub/Sub, and Cloud Run

Build event-driven systems with Apache Kafka, Confluent Cloud, and asynchronous messaging patterns

Integrate with MongoDB Atlas, SQL databases, and enterprise data platforms ensuring high availability and scalability

Develop, optimize, and automate CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, Jenkins, and Terraform

Apply Infrastructure as Code principles to manage and deploy cloud infrastructure

Implement robust testing strategies including unit, integration, contract, and performance testing

Ensure observability with centralized logging, monitoring, tracing, and alerting using Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, and GCP tools

Collaborate cross-functionally with engineers, architects, and business partners to deliver secure, compliant, and scalable solutions

Mentor team members and advocate for best practices in application architecture and cloud-native development

Required Skills and Experience

7+ years software development experience building enterprise applications and APIs

5+ years Java development with Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Maven, and Gradle

Hands-on experience deploying and managing applications on Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

Proficient with Docker, Kubernetes, GKE, and microservices architectures

Strong background in building event-driven integrations using Apache Kafka, Confluent Cloud, or Pub/Sub

Experience with MongoDB Atlas and SQL/NoSQL database design

Expertise with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins), GitHub, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)

Proficient in distributed systems, resiliency, scalability, and performance optimization

Preferred Skills

Experience with Google Cloud services: Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage, Secret Manager, Cloud Monitoring & Logging, Cloud Build, Cloud SQL

Professional Cloud Developer or Architect certification (Google Cloud)

Knowledge of API gateways, service mesh, and advanced observability tools (Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, Dynatrace, Splunk, Datadog)

Experience in financial services or high-volume transaction systems

Familiarity with OAuth2, OIDC, JWT, Zero Trust security architectures
