Job Description

The City of Belvidere, Illinois is seeking a Building Inspector/ Plans Examiner to join its Community Development Department. The Building Inspector reports to the Director of Buildings and is responsible for day-to-day administration of the City’s building codes including, new permits, plan reviews, building inspections and code enforcement.

The City of Belvidere is a community of nearly 26,000 residents and more than 600 businesses located along the Interstate 90 corridor in North Central Illinois. It is the county seat for Boone County Illinois and hosts multiple institutional / governmental facilities as well as many diverse industrial residents.

Responsibilities: The Building Inspector/Plans Examiner is responsible for building inspections, plan reviews for new construction and remodels, permitting, code administration and enforcement. The position serves, in conjunction with the Director of Buildings, as a Building Official for the City of Belvidere. The successful candidate must work closely and collaboratively with developers, contractors, architects, business owners, and residents to ensure safe and successful development throughout the community.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will bring:

· Strong knowledge of the International Code Council Codes as adopted by the City of Belvidere.

· Excellent time-management skills and the ability to work independently with nominal supervision

· Proven leadership and supervisory abilities

· Excellent written and oral communication skills and strong customer service skills

· Possess, or obtain within one year of hire, ICC Residential and Commercial Building Inspector certifications

· At least 5 years of relevant experience with plan reviews, and inspections.
