JOB ANALYSIS
The Instructional Assistant is responsible for providing support to instructional programs by assisting the teacher in achieving educational objectives by working with individual students or small groups to help them achieve the skill level of the class as a whole. The Instructional Assistant assists the teacher in providing a well-organized, smoothly functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected in the classroom teachers
Ability to take direction and to be a team player
Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher
Ability to work on multiple tasks, prioritize and organize appropriately
Ability to communicate effectively
Knowledge of lockdown procedures, fire drills, emergency backpacks to insure a safe school environment
Good listener
Basic computer skills
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, faculty and to work as a cooperative member of an interdisciplinary team
QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma
Experience working with children in structured environment
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
191 days per year. Refer to the contract between the Londonderry School Board and the Support Staff Union for additional information.
