Chartered in 1885, the OHC carries out history services for Ohio and its citizens focused on preserving and sharing the state's history.
This includes housing the state historic preservation office, the official state archives, local history office and managing more than 50 sites and museums across Ohio.rn rnPosition Summary:rnResponsible for reviewing and processing Ohio Historic Inventory survey products and National Register of Historic Places nominations to identify and evaluate historic properties throughout Ohio; advising and educating applicants about the survey and National Register programs.rn rnEssential Duties and Responsibilities: rnrnReview Ohio Historic Inventory History-Architecture survey forms and reports, including providing written guidance to applicantsrnReview National Register of Historic Places nominations and related maps, photographs, floorplans, and supplemental materials, including providing written guidance to applicants; assist in fulfilling public notification requirements including public meetingsrnAssist in review of National Register Questionnaires and initial technical reviews for National Register nominations and Ohio Historic Inventory survey productsrnParticipate in the preparation and presentation of nominations at Ohio Historic Site Preservation Advisory Board meetingsrnAssist in the development and review of Inventory & Registration Department special projects/programsrnCreate and present training and education for survey and National Register topics, including written material, workshops, conferences, presentations, and training sessionsrnCoordinate the Ohio Historic Inventory and National Register programs with other departments in the office and state and local agencies rnCommunicate about the Ohio Historic Inventory and National Register programs including responding to public inquiries rnExercise independent management of review responsibilities rnPrioritize work and meet multiple deadlinesrnrn rnEducation and Experience:rnrnMust meet the professional qualifications standards in 36 CFR 61, Appendix A: a graduate degree in history, architectural history, architecture, historical architecture, or a closely-related field; ORrnA bachelor degree in history, architectural history, architecture, historical architecture, or closely-related field and two years of work experience in a relevant discipline.rnTwo additional years of work experience in a relevant discipline preferred.rnrn rnSkills:rnrnFamiliarity with applying National Register of Historic Places Criteria for Evaluation and assessing historic integrity for historic propertiesrnFamiliarity with Secretary of the Interior's Standards and Guidelines for Archaeology and Historic Preservation for Identification and Evaluation, as well as other federal historic preservation laws, regulations, and guidelinesrnAbility to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with a wide range of preservation constituents in both the public and private sectorsrnAbility to implement, plan, and critically evaluate researchrnAbility to review, understand, and interpret a variety of technical data, such as architectural and engineering drawings, primary and secondary research sources, and mapsrnAbility to use Microsoft Windows and Office applications including spreadsheets and databasesrnAbility to use Geographic Information System softwarernrn rnWork Environment:rnNormal office environment.
