Responsibilities

Instructional Support

• Provide individualized and small-group mathematics mentoring to assigned students under the direction of professional educators.

• Reinforce classroom instruction and provide targeted practice in middle school mathematics concepts, including pre-algebra, ratios, expressions, equations, and related skills.

• Use encouragement, positive relationships, and compassionate support to help students overcome barriers and build confidence in mathematics.

• Adapt explanations, examples, activities, and instructional support to address students'individual learning needs.

• Monitor student participation, understanding, and progress during mentoring sessions.

• Maintain a safe, respectful, organized, and productive learning environment.

Program Collaboration and Training

• Work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and other professional educators to support an effective school-based mathematics mentoring program.

• Follow assigned student schedules, intervention plans, instructional expectations, and program procedures.

• Communicate relevant observations and student progress information to the supervising teacher or administrator.

• Complete required Utah STEM Action Center training before and during service and apply the program's recommended intervention strategies.

• Maintain required participation, service, progress, or program records accurately and confidentially.

• Use calculators, online mathematics platforms, instructional software, and other educational technology as assigned.

• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills

Minimum Qualifications

• Strong mathematics proficiency at the middle school level, including pre-algebra, ratios, expressions, equations, and related concepts.

• High school diploma, adult high school diploma, or G.E.D.

• Ability to work effectively with students and collaborate with teachers and other professional educators.

• Must also meet one of the following:

• Positive interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to encourage, mentor, and motivate students in mathematics.

• Completion of at least 48 semester hours of qualifying post-secondary study

• Ability to explain mathematics concepts clearly and adapt instructional support to differing student needs.

• Associate's degree or higher

• Familiarity with, or willingness to learn, intervention strategies promoted by the Utah STEM Math Mentors Program.

• Passing score on the Master Teacher Assessment demonstrating ability to assist in reading, writing, and mathematics

• Basic computer and educational technology proficiency.

• Demonstrated patience, flexibility, dependability, organization, and professionalism in a middle school environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience working with, mentoring, or tutoring adolescents.

Other Requirements

• Physical ability to perform the essential functions of instructional support, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Job Description

Millard School District is accepting applications for a STEM Math Mentor at Delta Middle School. The STEM Math Mentor provides individualized and small-group mathematics support to assigned students under the direction of teachers and school administration. The mentor reinforces classroom instruction, provides targeted practice in middle school mathematics concepts, and helps students develop confidence and improve their mathematics skills.

This is a part-time, school-year position scheduled for 28.75 hours per week. The successful applicant will collaborate with professional educators, follow assigned student schedules and intervention plans, monitor student participation and progress, maintain required program records, and complete training required by the Utah STEM Action Center. The starting wage is $17.00 per hour.

• Compensation is determined according to the Millard School District Classified Salary Schedule or approved hourly rate for the position.

• Standard schedule: 28.75 hours per week during the school year.

• Scheduled hours and work calendar are assigned according to the position and District need.
