HiFyve is hiring for multiple levels of Nuclear Facilities Engineers (Structural Engineer)

Nuclear Facilities Engineer (Structural) – Level 2 OR 3

Location: Onsite – Los Alamos, NM

Schedule: 4/10 work schedule

Salary Range

Nuclear Facilities Engineer 2: $100K - $170K

Nuclear Facilities Engineer 3: $125K - $211K

(Level determined based on qualifications and experience)

About the Role

We are seeking experienced Structural Engineers to support the safe, compliant, and reliable operation of nuclear facilities critical to national security.

This position will be filled at either Nuclear Facilities Engineer 2 or 3, depending on the selected candidate’s skills and experience. Engineers at both levels apply structural engineering expertise—particularly in steel and reinforced concrete design—to support retooling, modification, and sustainment of existing nuclear facilities.

Key Responsibilities

Nuclear Facilities Engineer 2

Provide structural engineering support for existing non-reactor nuclear facilities

Perform structural analysis and design using applicable codes and standards

Develop and review engineering calculations, drawings, and technical documentation

Apply DOE Orders and national codes (ASCE, ACI, AISC, IBC) to facility modifications

Support construction activities through design clarification and field issue resolution

Collaborate across structural, mechanical, electrical, and project teams

Participate in either:

Design Engineering: Producing construction documents and design packages

Rapid Response Team: Resolving construction execution issues efficiently

Nuclear Facilities Engineer 3 (In addition to Level 2 duties)

Serve as a technical authority and subject matter expert for nuclear facility systems

Provide engineering leadership and oversight for complex or high-consequence systems

Lead interdisciplinary engineering efforts and mentor junior engineers

Guide design configuration, safety integration, and long-term facility performance

Apply graded, risk-informed engineering approaches for Hazard Category 2 and 3 facilities

Perform peer reviews and provide technical approval authority

Minimum Qualifications (Both Levels)

Knowledge of structural systems and engineering methods for non-reactor nuclear facilities

Experience performing and documenting complex structural calculations and analyses

Proficiency with structural analysis software such as SAP2000, RISA, STAAD, or GT STRUDL

Working knowledge of:

IBC, AISC 360, ACI 318, ASCE 7, DOE-STD-1020

Understanding of engineering work planning, construction methods, and configuration control

Experience integrating engineering efforts across multiple disciplines

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a regulated environment

Additional Qualifications – Engineer 3

Advanced knowledge of nuclear facility engineering systems and safety-based design

Demonstrated experience providing technical leadership or design authority

Expertise in DOE/NNSA regulations and consensus standards

Proven ability to mentor engineers and lead peer reviews

Recognized subject matter expertise in areas such as:

Nuclear safety basis

Systems engineering

Design engineering

Project engineering

Education & Experience

Engineer 2:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution

Minimum 3 years of relevant experience

Advanced degree and PE license highly desirable

EIT certification strongly preferred

Engineer 3:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution

Minimum 6 years of relevant experience

Advanced degree and PE license highly desirable
