Harbor Homes, Inc. (HHI) a nonprofit 501(c)(3) agency, has been providing quality residential services to individuals and families in need for 25 years. Harbor Homes offers a variety of affordable housing, employment assistance, behavioral and primary health care, and supportive services to adults and families who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, or living with disabilities. As a member of the Partnership for Successful Living, clients of Harbor Homes also have access to the programs and services offered by our affiliates. These programs are supported through federal and state grants, foundation grants, and individual and corporate community support. In September 2003, HHI was awarded a grant by the Department of Veterans Affairs to establish Veterans F.I.R.S.T., a transitional housing program serving 20 homeless veterans. This program is overseen by the Homeless Coordinator at the VA Medical Center in Manchester, New Hampshire.

Are you a highly energetic professional with a track record of building donor relationships and closing gifts. If yes, then make a difference in the lives of individuals, families and veterans in need by securing resources which will enable programs to sustain the highest quality of support to our clients. As the Major Gifts Officer you will be responsible for soliciting gifts from existing and potential donors, managing relationships with prospective donors, working collaboratively with and in support of volunteers and other development/advancement staff to cultivate and solicit donors, and monitoring all prospect contacts to ensure positive and purposeful prospect and donor relations.

Essential duties and responsibilities include managing a portfolio of primary prospects, tracking prospect activity, and travelling throughout the state. Participate in all aspects of the gift cycle by initiating contacts with potential leadership and major gift donors; developing appropriate cultivation strategies for them, including working with volunteers; moving potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure; and making solicitations when appropriate. Maintain stewardship contacts with donors, adhere to the highest ethical standards, demonstrate empathetic disposition, and perseverance, reflect optimistic and positive attitude, and convey sensitivity to needs of the donors.

In addition, you will work collaboratively with development, offer prospect strategy counsel to staff who are managing other prospects and be a resource for development staff, from identifying potential volunteer connections to knowing about meeting and event spaces in key locations.


• Bachelor’s Degree, Masters preferred

• Five to seven years’ successful experience in major or planned gift fundraising preferably in non-profit organization.

• Ability to understand the needs and interests of leadership and major gift donors in order to develop relationships between them and the Partnership

• Interest in all aspects of health and human services with a dedication to promoting the Partnership’s fundraising priorities through developing excellent relationships. Demonstrated leadership and the ability to successfully manage multi-functional or diverse areas.

• Successful experience in making cold calls as well as developing cultivation and solicitation strategies.

• Must have excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated record of completing assignments.

• Must be willing to travel.
