We are currently recruiting a salaried, full-time General Manager to lead operations for a prestigious, upscale boutique cafe in Washington, DC. The Role: Operational Excellence & Leadership

This is a daytime role, offering a work-life balance rarely found in the hospitality industry. The successful candidate will be functionally responsible for the front and back-of-house operational management of a thriving retail and cafe experience.

We are seeking a leader who can educate teammates and customers through eloquent, engaging, and accurate communication regarding our company history, mission, and the unique quality that differentiates our product in the U.S. market.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Management: Oversee all daily FOH and BOH operations, ensuring the cafe meets objectives regarding internal/external ordering, inventory management, maintenance, cleanliness, and hygiene.

Team Leadership: Lead the recruitment, training, mentoring, and ongoing development of a multidisciplinary retail and cafe team.

Financial Control: Manage labor costs, banking, cash management, staffing, and scheduling to ensure profitability and efficiency.

Merchandising Standards: Adhere to defined methodologies for the storage, back-stocking, rotation, and visual merchandising of fresh retail products.

Quality Assurance: Ensure strict compliance with methodologies for the creation, presentation, and service of premium beverages and pastry items.

Communication: Maintain timely, thorough, and accurate communication with senior management and head office support functions (HR, Finance, Marketing, IT), as well as logistics and production facilities.

Culture Building: Lead by example through professionalism, commitment, and diligence. Benchmark high operational standards to ensure teammates are motivated to reflect these in their own work practices.

Qualifications & Requirements

To succeed in this role, you must demonstrate a professional and polished personal presentation suitable for a luxury environment. We are looking for candidates who have successfully transitioned teams from sedate to fast-paced service environments while maintaining high standards.

Experience: Proven quality retail and/or food service management experience is required.

Leadership: Experience managing diversely skilled, seasonal, part-time, and full-time teammates with varying levels of experience and buy-in.

Technical Skills: Proficiency with front and back-of-house POS systems and functions.

Customer Engagement: Excellent customer service skills with the ability to engage a sophisticated clientele.

Physical Requirements: Capable of lifting and carrying loads of up to 40lbs.
