TRAINING PROGRAMS:
1. HTM BEARINGS LTD, HYDERABAD: I have attended six months training heat-treatment of high carbon & high chromium steels and die tool steels. It’s a PSU working under Govt. of India undertaking and I was trained at supervisor position. It consisted of annealing, normalizing, hardening, mar quenching and stress relieving using sealed quench, conveyor belt and salt bath furnaces.
2. BHARATH HEAVY ELECTRICALS LTD, HYDERABAD: I have attended training for a period of six months on casting of grey iron, spheroidal iron and their melting practices on induction furnaces of high capacity in Grey Iron foundry and pattern shop. I have also been trained in alloy additions calculations for the melt charge before topping up. The most widely produced grades of iron castings are Grade 20 and Grade 25.
ACADEMIC PROJECTS:
1. ELECTRO SLAG REFINING PROCESS: It is a process of reducing the sulphur content of the steel for special purpose steels. The process of refining the steel in ESR process consists of the steel to be refined is made as electrode by casting. Then an arc is struck between the steel electrode and charge(slag) thought which the molten droplets of passes through there by reducing the sulphur content to 50% less.
2. THERMIT WELDING PROCESS: It is a process of joining two pieces of metals/castings by filling the gap between them by igniting the mixture of alumina and iron oxide. The iron oxide acts as the source of iron and alumina acts the metal reducing agent. The high ignition temperature spreads throughout the mass and the reaction generates super heated liquid steel. The super heated steel fills the mould joining the two rails. It is a quick process and the mixture of alumina and iron oxide is called thermit powder. The heat required for the coalescence in this process is obtained from a chemical reaction that takes place between iron oxide and metal reducing agent (generally aluminium) liberating super heated steel. As the process needs no fuel, the reaction being exothermic, it can be adopted for use in rail welding.
