ABSA bank acts as a intermediator between two parties which are involved in the Export – Import. The bank plays the role of a Guarantor where it guarantees the Importer, the material imported to be in good condition and reaches within the time frame. In a similar manner Guarantees the Exporter, to get the correct material cost within the stipulated time. All the three parties, Exporter, Importer & the Bank also need to deal with all the leagalities & the documentations.

Export-Import BARCLAYS BANK (ABSA)

Project Overview:

The project was a 6 months enhancement project to automate the VAT statement generation at client location, Johanesburg. In the Export-Import area when the Bank acts a guarantor, need to do the payment for the Export-Import. The transactions then include the taxes like VAT which also acts a major factor in deciding the final cost to beared by customer.

Role & Responsibilities: The manual task of putting the VAT figures and then generating the statement was automated through Batch process- monthly & Yearly. As a developer my responsibility belongs to develop the Batch process that caters to provide the details of VAT for each transactions for different customers. And also accumulates to generate the summary page for each customer. Apart from generating these Statements the process also took care of the Priniting logic.

YRC Worldwide Technologies is leading roadway transportation and Logistics Company based in USA.The project involved conversion of data from SDT VSAM file to DB2 database. By eliminating these VSAM files, the process of converting the Tracking System information to DB2 storage will be simplified. Also, it will eliminate a duplicate data store resulting in less maintenance as well as less chance for errors related to inaccurate data.

This is an offshoot of LH VSAM to DB2 conversion. YT Line-haul system has exclusive VSAM file that stores history of driver details, this includes its Dispatch, Status & Call history. Due to previous project of VSAM to DB2 conversion the data was already available on DB2 tables. Thus the current scope of the project enables to retrieve this data from DB2 tables instead of VSAM file and display on the online screens, thus making the VSAM file obsolete.

As a Team Leader, the role involves:-

Project Name: Linehaul VSAM to DB2 Conversion

Project Overview-

Yellow’s mainframe Tracking System maintains a subset of Linehaul driver data in VSAM file. In order for the Linehaul Gui to easily access driver data in the future, a conversion effort was initiated to move all Linehaul driver data to a DB2 data structure. This will provide more flexibility for accessing the data and supports the technology infrastructure vision of conversion to a consistent, relational data store. To support this effort, all Cobol programs that currently access the primary driver VSAM file and the three alternate index files were modified.
