Professional Experience and Selected Accomplishments
Contract Assignments; 2009 to Present
Process Engineer, Square D Inc. (Schneider Electrical Group / Volt Workforce Solutions)
■Responsible for development and implementation of Kanban / OFO storage and retrieval layout and procedures for Square D assembly operations. Brought inventory control within Schneider Process System protocols.
Operations Manager, AR Tech, Inc.
■Engaged to develop and implement plan to repair external and internal damage for this asphalt paving and pavement rehabilitation business.
ABT, Inc., Troutman, NC; Director of Operations 2000 to 2009
Manufacturing Operations and engineering oversight for commercial and industrial construction based components company. Provided turnkey product and installation packages. Additional responsibilities included Sales and Marketing for turnaround of damaged acquisition.
Expanded process and NPD expertise utilizing Polymer Concrete (PC), Rigid EPS Foam, Plastic and metal piping and fittings, Injection molded PE/PP & PVC, FRP, extruded aluminum, structural steel fabrication, formed and cast metals. NPD represented 30+% annual revenue growth.
■ Performed value and process stream evaluation of continuous mixing polymer facility. Performed and directed SPC analysis to aid in constraint identification and engage management in problem solving. Introduced and utilized 5S, SMED, 8D and FMEA analysis as problem solving platforms targeting production improvements. Reduced re-work and scrap from 5%+ to less than 0.5%. Overall production output improved a sustainable 19%, with 26% peaks, coinciding with a 14% reduction in direct manufacturing labor.

■ Improved interpretation of sales forecast data to accurately reflect future demand. Completed a comprehensive Bill of Materials, material specification and design drawing(s) audit bringing BOM accuracy within targeted 99% levels and improved manufacturability of both in-house and outsourced goods. Established and managed a Master Production Schedule (MPS) addressing on-time deliveries and seasonal variations. Developed a Capacity Load Report as an effective metric to manage manufacturing resources.
■ Sourced and qualified all suppliers, North American, China, South America, Central Europe and developed supply interruption contingency plan. Prepared Total Cost of Ownership analysis and reports. Negotiated material performance contracts with domestic and foreign suppliers to include PPAP process and SLA’s defining KSF and KPI criteria and supplier responsibilities. Worked closely with suppliers to correct problems and eliminate waste. Prior return and rework activities, previously as high as 14% annually, were virtually eliminated. Developed production initiatives lowering manufacturing waste to less than 0.1%. Introduced MRP based protocols tripling inventory turns.
■ Organized and negotiated contingency and supplier managed inventories lowering inventory cost and obtaining favorable payment and shipping terms. This initiative drove our supplier’s quality commitment since payment was denied for items falling outside quality parameters. Results supported allocation of cash flow into other revenue generating business development projects.
■Led revitalization of damaged EPS rigid foam business initially acquired for equipment, inventory and intellectual property salvage. Prepared plan to repair customer relations and develop sales through establishment of distribution network with key regional distribution houses. Re-engineered Foam product designs improving structural integrity and decreasing process cycle times. Designed new components, completing existing systems, and brought all outsourced production in-house. Customer’s response to our commitment and quality improvements led to self-sustaining profitability during the second plan year.
PMW Products, Inc., Raleigh, NC; Operations Manager promoted to General Manager 1998 to 2000
Responsible for all facets of Thermoforming Operations and Engineering. Company sales were flat during this period but pre-tax income increased over 800% due to process and productivity improvements.
Hired to determine cause of numerous production and departmental disconnects and bring the company to sustained profitability. Developed and implemented a strategic 4 year business plan providing a solid financial footing into the future. Prepared capital equipment plan and budget to assure future market competitiveness.
■Conducted SPC and root cause analysis of contract thermoforming operations determining constraints and developed a plan of corrective procedures removing bottlenecks and improving overall process quality. Applied SMED to tooling and dies resulting in significant output capacity and waste reduction improvements. Successfully re-trained personnel upgraded production equipment and developed new production procedures with written and video SOP’s. Pre-equipment upgrade results included a 40+% output increase and double digit reductions in inventory shrinkage, re-work and scrap.
A pre-tax income increase of $960,000 was achieved on flat sales during the first year.
■Provided successful operational co-leadership to implement and gain accreditation for ISO 9001:2000.
■Developed customer retention service plan working closely with customers and suppliers developing innovations for new and existing applications resulting in expanded revenue opportunities.
Rotomolded Technical Solutions, Inc., Conover, NC; Operations Manager promoted to General Manager 1992 to 1998
Responsible for development and implementation of planning to build and sustain a start-up contract plastic molding facility. Established and managed all Operations, Engineering and Sales functions.
Company profitability achieved during abbreviated start-up and following years.
