Specialization: Product Development of Power Train Components for Commercial vehicles.

At present Team leader in cooling system design for Buses. Handling Front engine and Rear engine Bus projects at ASHOK LEYLAND.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Product development of cooling system from concept stage to final product using special tools. Which mainly involves,

Design calculations of cooling system considering Engine Heat rejection, Charge air flow & Fan air flow.

Analysis of cooling system using 1D simulation tool KULI.

Design verifications through CFD, FEA, & DMU.

Conduct system and component level DFMEA and derive DVVP.

Packaging Cooling System components in Vehicle DMU considering Design for manufacturing and Design for assembly.

Release of drawings & documentations through established processes like PLM.

Effective communication of concept proposals through appropriate presentations to Design review committees for approvals.

Active involvement in the development process, proto build and validation of components in lab & on Vehicle.

Active participation in CFT for resolving field failures & complaints and manufacturing issues.

Generation & Evaluation of Value Engineering ideas for cost reduction.

MAJOR PROJECTS UNDERTAKEN:

1. Cooling system development:

a) Cooling system development of BS3/BS4 Migration – the new emission standards, for all vehicles (Trucks, Buses & Defence).

b) Cooling System development of Rear Engine Buses.

c) Cooling system development of FVDP vehicles the prestigious new vehicle development project which going to change the trend of commercial vehicle face of ASHOK LEYLAND.

2. New generation fan drives – Design & Development:

a) Development of Electro Magnetic Clutch – Development of Electro Magnetic Clutch drives over existing viscous clutch.

b) Development of Hydrostatic fan drives - Hydrostatic fan drives for Rear Engine Bus Application.

3. Value Engineering

a. Development of Radiator with thickness reduction, thereby reducing the weight & cost of entire cooling system.

b. Development of Intercooler with plastic tanks in place of conventional aluminum tanks.

KULI Software:

Application of KULI Simulation software for Development of Cooling System-

KULI is a 1D simulation tool used for virtually analyzing cooling system performance. It helps to determine the effectiveness of cooling system prior to the actual testing.

KULI helped to reduce number of iterations required to develop cooling package, and thus reduced the cooling trials.
