CAREER SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE

Accomplished process engineer/production supervisor/production manager/maintenance supervisor with a proven ability to oversee production processes, evaluate maintenance needs, manage multiple priorities, ensure quality, train operators, and conceptualize and implement process improvement projects. Experienced in formal safety programs, developing and implementing quality systems, process troubleshooting, budgeting, cost control, lean manufacturing, and capital projects. Seeking an increasingly responsible long-term position, where technical and organizational abilities, hard work, and systematic problem solving will result in a more profitable operation.

EDUCATION

BS in Chemical Engineering, University of Arkansas-Fayetteville.

MS in Environmental Engineering, University of Arkansas: Three-quarters of classwork completed.

WORK EXPERIENCE

ENGELHARD CORPORATION/BASF CORPORATION, January 2006 to Present

Production Supervisor

Entered the chemical manufacturing industry in order to exercise my educational background more fully. Supervise operations (operators, logistics, maintenance activities, and environmental issues) in a precision, large-scale chemical catalyst manufacturing facility. Very active in set-up changeovers in order to produce a variety of products with a limited amount of equipment.

MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS

• Led initiative to optimize the facility compressed air system. Identified over $100,000 in annual potential savings requiring minimal investment.

• Routinely troubleshoot and solve quality issues as well as teaching others to do so. I consider problem solving to be a personal challenge.

• Actively guide resource allocation. Act as both a leader and a resource.

• Experienced with safe work permitting, confined space, hot work, safe line breaking, and MOC procedures. Have led root cause investigations on many occasions within our accident/incident threat reduction structure. Have completed 8 hours of HAZWOPER training.

• Track, analyze, and communicate key process indicators on a daily basis.

• Developed a team that consistently ranks in the top two in the facility in terms of productivity.

MIDWEST AIR TECHNOLOGIES, September 2003 to January 2006

Production Manager and Assistant Warehouse Manager

Maintained dual responsibilities, managing all production activities in a facility manufacturing welded wire and chainlink fencing while acting as a resource to the warehouse/shipping department. Had complete responsibility for production quantities, quality, maintenance, reporting, training of employees, scheduling, and safety. This facility is the sole supplier for these products to all Home Depot stores in the southeast region.

MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS

• Improved production efficiencies through education and cross training of employees.

• Broke plant record for welded wire production and company wide record (5 plants) for chainlink production.

• Devised method of quickly reporting daily production efficiencies to operators, supervisors, and maintenance.

• Functioned as Chairman of the plant Safety Committee.

• Managed all manufacturing operations, having three supervisors as direct reports, along with 27 operators and material handling personnel.

• Accomplished all of the above while managing a workforce 80% of which did not speak English.

DAVIS WIRE PUEBLO CORPORATION, PUEBLO, COLORADO, April 2002 To September 2003

Production Supervisor

Supervised production activities in galvanization, barbed wire, weld fabric, and fence departments for an operation producing a wide range of wire products. Interacted continually with quality, maintenance, scheduling, and environmental personnel to ensure the timely production of a quality product produced in a safe manner.

MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS

• Closely monitored process for quality deviations, troubleshooting product and personnel problems quickly in order to maintain stability within the department. Attention to detail is the key.

• Worked for and maintained an atmosphere of mutual respect with floor personnel, while demanding and receiving quality workmanship and adherence to set standards.

• Performed as a leader rather than a manager in order to accomplish goals. Created a much higher level of buy-in from hourly workforce than had previously existed.

DRAKA ELEVATOR PRODUCTS, ROCKY MOUNT, NORTH CAROLINA, 1999 to 2001

Production Supervisor/Maintenance Supervisor

Guided production and maintenance efforts in the extrusion, cabling, braiding, stranding, and jacketing departments in a facility manufacturing electrical elevator cables.

MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS

• Coordinated the manufacture of individual components and their assembly into specific cables through application of the production order system. Utilized kanban racks to control intermediate product inventories.

• Led redirection of maintenance department efforts. Re-instituted preventative maintenance procedures and oversaw replenishment of critical spare parts in order to achieve long term goals of equipment dependability.

AMERICAN STEEL CORD - A DIVISION OF MICHELIN NORTH AMERICA, SCOTTSBURG, INDIANA, 1997 to 1999

Process Development Engineer

Responsible for process engineering in plating, heat treating, electrolytic pickling, and coating diffusion operations. Headed interdepartmental project teams and initiated process improvement projects in other areas of the operation.

MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS

• Formulated method, procured equipment, and established procedure for monitoring furnace atmospheres in heat treating operations. Efforts resulted in a greater degree of quality assurance than was formerly possible.

• Identified and corrected errors in X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy analysis of coating (plated) weight and composition on intermediate products. This produced higher quality and control of plating in the process.
