San Diego Union-Tribune, February 2011–May 2011
350 Camino de la Reina, San Diego, CA 92108
Contract Page Designer for the features sections. Reacquainted myself with PC
keyboard commands, mastered a new production system and an entirely new
print medium, all while creating strong, concept-driven section covers each week on-demand for a period of three months. While I was hired and trained to cover for only one designer, I stepped up to fill in for multiple designers and sections as needed during my stint.
National Geographic Magazine (NGM), 2007– December 2010
1145 17th Street, NW, Washington, D.C. 20036
Designer for international, award-winning magazine. I took my responsibilities above and beyond assigned stories and was awarded multiple special projects that spanned, cross-platform initiatives. For example, my proven video skills were utilized by the Editor in Chief to create a 3-minute video for our special Water Issue, which he took with him on an international tour to promote the topic.
Other National Geographic projects, 2008–2010
Lead designer for iPad layout conversion Appointed as lead designer for NGM to navigate an unprecedented digital conversion workflow.
“ First Look” commercials for Nat Geo Channel Volunteered my cross-platform, technical skills to keep the post-production graphics editing in-house for the 30-second TV spot produced each month. I am currently still doing these spots.
Issue preview videos for NG.com Self-produced 30-second promo videos of each issue for the web and social media sites; tens of thousands of hits each month.
Freelance designer, 2005–present
Clients include: National Geographic TV, National Geographic Books, Washington DC; National Parks Conservation Association, Washington DC; Elementary Workshop Montessori School, Wilmington, DE; Washington Canoe Club, Georgetown, D.C.; Ngoc Do & Associates, real estate firm, Reston, VA; Gigi Favella, shoe designer, Alexandria, VA; Bailey Handbags, women’s handbag designer, Alexandria, VA; Rambiss Consulting Group, Ft. Career Break Secrets, 2008–2010
Online start-up: careerbreaksecrets.com
One of three co-founders of the web-based, video travel guide company. I brought the creative expertise to the brainstorming table as we developed a business plan and identity from the ground up. My design eye elevated the look of this start-up to a professional level.
Aloysius Butler & Clark (AB&C), 2001–2005
819 Washington Street, Wilmington, DE 19801
My first job in the industry. Started as an intern and surprised them all by exhibiting interest and skill in the creative side of the biz. I was mentored by the production manager and used that knowledge to catch on quickly to the rest of the game.
