Foundry Metallurgist
Akers Nation Roll, Pittsburgh PA 1/2008 – 12/2010 (department closed by HQ)
• Provide technical assistance to cast iron foundry and outside rolling mills, conduct continuous improvement and perform daily quality assurance of cast iron
• Visit worldwide customers including USA, Asia and Europe to present roll selection and rolling techniques
• Introduce new steel grade(High Speed Steel), perform hands-on projects and interact with corporate R&D team members
• Oversee daily lab analysis and NDT inspection, responsible for metallographic analysis and audit heat treatment for best practice
• Lead and participate in magnesium wire feed project on cast iron inoculation: project budget, wire feed start-up, wire selection, safety concerns, work instruction developing and routine wire feed practices
• Work closely with operations, maintenance, safety and sales
Metallurgist Winsert Inc. Green Bay, WI 1/2011 – Present
• Provide technical assistance to the casting foundry for diesel engine parts(Iron-base, Nickel-base, Cobalt-base alloys), oversee the lab testing and chemistry analysis, maintain statistical process control(SPC), responsible for daily quality report and Non-Destructive Testing report
• Perform the investigation for corrective action request on the customer claims and introduce the new material casting trials (tool steel, stainless steel and nickel alloys)
• Continually improve metallurgy process including optimizing raw material and steel scrap charge make-up and air melting process for cost saving, review heat treatment cycles data for best practices and conduct SEM/EDS analysis
• Work with floor personnel for casting defects and failure analysis, participate in the new grade introduction, prototype/pattern design, perform hands-on project including failure analysis and on-site technical support
