Estimating Engineer (Tooling and Processes)
Mahle Filter Systems is a world leader in automotive components ranging for Drive-Train to Air Induction to Fuel Filtering systems. The Murfreesboro, TN. facility is the main manufacturing sight for Air Intake Systems, Carbon Canisters, Intake manifolds and Rocker Covers. While at Mahle I worked on the following:
• Set-up new engineering cost estimation form to assist Product Costing.
• Estimate full production jobs from given BOM’s, drawings and engineering specs.
• Analyzed data for inaccuracies and improvements.
• Looked at new quote as to what was a make vs. buy.
• Had tooling designed and made for 2D, and 3D Blow Molding Machines
• Injection molds designed and built for International and domestic programs
Lexmark International, Lexington, KY. June1993 to September 2005
Manufacturing Engineer (tooling)
While at Lexmark I was components Team Leader for the Laser Cartridge Group on color products. I made sure all tooling for new and existing programs were maintained and delivered on time over several programs. I directed other team members on tooling design and processes. Determined inspection planning for all new programs, I improved efficiency and profitability of manufacturing at suppliers and CM with pad printing equipment, vibration, and ultra sonic welding. I worked with teams in other departments as an advisor for tooling issues and needs.
• Implement Vibration Welding on Laser Cartridge Developer Housings. By doing this scrap was reduced at start-up, and field failures for cracked parts were eliminated.
• Excellent knowledge of injection mold tooling including TPE, and EPDM materials. Also, good knowledge of Wire Forms, Die Casting, Blow Molding, and Stamping Dies.
• Have good QC background and understanding of GD&T, and Cp/Cpk requirements.
• Reviewed and approved equipment specifications at suppliers for Lexmark programs
• Analyzed designs and technical aspects of new products for manufacturability
• Provided quality engineering support to ensure implementation and compliance standards were met.
• Assisted in product design for plastic molding, die cast, and stamped parts.
Magnum Mold & Tool, Louisville, KY. 1990 to 1993
Tool Designer
Responsible for new tool designs. While in this position I would also build tools I design with lead tool makers.
• While at this company I setup the metrology lab for inspection of parts as well as tooled components, and electrodes.
• Very good working knowledge of programming CNC equipment as well as shop floor knowledge of all equipment, and tooling
• Designed and produced all my own fixtures and gages to assist me in completing each job.
Radio Sound, Louisville, Ky. 1989 to 1990
Design Engineer
While at Radio Sound I would design and implement new products for the Marine Industry and for Harley Davidson Corp.
• While at this position I co-designed and fabricated two motorcycle headsets programs for Harley-Davidson.
• Good analytical skill combined with shop floor knowledge and CAD background help me to achieve my goals.
• Restructured coating lines for the Marine Radio circuit boards. This led to an increase in finished goods, and large reduction in scrap.
