Mid-Am Metal Forming, Rogersville, MO
Mid-Am Metal Forming is the industry leader in metal stretch forming, bending, metal fabrication and painting services for aerospace, military, automotive, marine, and architectural needs. Expertise stretches from simple to exotic designs and includes extruded, brake formed, roll formed, sheet or drawn techniques. Produce revenues in excess of $12-15 million annually. ISO 9001:2008 certified facility.
Production/Materials Manager
Directed the shipping/receiving activities through nine employees for specialized parts requiring contract-dependent deadlines and specialized packing/shipping requirements to meet customer specifications and quality. Inventory and materials had to be critically scheduled and available on time. Average daily shipping included 10 shipments daily to various customers valuing approximately $1M monthly with no significant shipping problems and deliveries on time.
● Ensured that materials were available for 8 production lines, including the shipping, fabrication, paint, and brake metal departments. Coordinated the movement of finished and semi-finished products between three buildings. (Some orders required two or three processes, and it was important to make sure the next step in the process had their materials so that critical delivery dates were met.
● Managed inventory counts for company-owned materials and customer’s materials that were located at
the facility; administered the inventory documentation of all materials and products that arrived at the facilities. Inventory counts critical to determine product run sizes and achieving product delivery on time and on budget (often to meet contract requirements). Inventory documentation was critical if we received damaged material; impacted ability to deliver required order on time and sometimes impacted transport company insurance recovery.
● Ordered necessary materials for custom crating and shipping of all finished products to meet deadlines; materials had to be available so that crating/shipping was done on time. It was critical to have needed wood, chip board and foam to ensure that the finished product arrived to the customer undamaged and on time, often to meet customer/contract requirements.
● Managed the shipping and crating of finished products to customers. Scheduled trucks to ship finished product and create packing lists and bills of lading. Building crates and packing for 10 shipments required constant monitoring (due to size and weight of crates) to order trucks to pick up crates and generate the required paperwork so the material was shipped correctly and to the correct customer. Arranging 10 shipments per day required efficient planning, scheduling, and coordination with other departments.

● Prepared production schedules for 11 production lines. Arranged daily allocation of materials, supplies and staff for production. Developed run sequences to reduce change-over times to manage cost/efficiencies. Arranging run sequences of products reduced change-over time, reduced solvent usage, and generated more productivity toward order delivery.
● Participated in weekly scheduling meeting with the Supply Chain Planners at the 3M plant in Springfield, MO (major customer). Consistently attained 90-95% product availability which was the standard established by 3M. Worked closely with engineers and production workers to complete Six Sigma projects and solve filling/packaging issues to improve production efficiency.
● Supervised maintenance operations to determine efficient down-time on machines for preventive maintenance and other emergency maintenance. This enhanced productivity and efficiency of operation.
● Implemented training and assisted in obtaining Wilcorp’s ISO certification on initial try and recertification. This certification was critical to maintaining a key customer.
● Prepared documents and received funding from Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) to assist with financial cost of ISO 9001:2008 (International Organization for Standardization) certification. The training assistance from DESE off-set approximately 33% of the expenses generated during the ISO certification process.
● Initiated purchases of additional machines, parts and training to reduce change-over times by 50%; reduced costs and enhanced productivity. On one machine, change-over time was reduced from 5 hours to 2 hours using fewer operators, enhanced productivity, and reduced costs.

All contributed to enhanced revenue and reduced costs.
● Resolved safety issues and worked with our safety consultants on training, ergonomics, and potential hazards and reduced recordable accidents from 23 accidents in 2007 to 7 OSHA recordable accidents in 2010.
