Manufacturing Intern Apr 2011 – Nov 2011 Leyland Deere is the joint venture of John Deere USA and Ashok Leyland Ltd.
• Contributed in all departments ( from fabrication to assembly line) in the manufacturing of a backhoe. Worked in the design of the shop floor by identifying VA’s and NVA’s.
• As a team leader, I studied the process sheets of all work stations and charted a time study that aided in improving the cycle time by identifying the wastes and by being a mediator between the worker and the design team. Was able to improve the cycle efficiency by 3% in one of the bottleneck stations and also bring in changes in the Work Instructions. Also contributed in continuous improvement in everyday safety meetings.
• Implemented Six Sigma techniques by remodelling the positions of tool carts at various work-stations in the assembly line to reduce motion and transportation waste and in-turn cycle time (lean manufacturing).
• Formulated value stream mapping (vsm) using Microsoft Visio that helped the team understand the current state capacity and plan for the future and estimated the production to increase by 6 times in 3 year (till 2014).

Worked in the manufacturing of steering wheels. I was part of the team which implemented Poka Yoke for defect prevention.
ACADEMIC PROJECTS
Design of volatile organic compounds destruction system, Team Leader Fall 2011
• Worked with my team to roll out PDF, Heat and material Balance sheet, P&ID, Equipment Data Sheet and Control Systems. Performed the economic analysis and also applied the industrial waste-to-energy conversion techniques to save up to $100000 per annum.
Scheduling Application – USC Lab, Team Member Fall 2011
• Developed an application using algorithms which increased the manager’s productivity by 9 hours every week. Cost would also be forecasted for effective managerial decisions. Programmed in Microsoft Excel.
Solar Charging Station, Team Leader Spring 2011
• Designed a model of solar charging station for USC Transportation for charging electric cars to save more than $90000 over a period of 25 years. A multi-purpose solar calculator was designed for 2 cities which can be used for calculating panel capacities. Economic and environmental analysis was also done.
Horizontal Boring Machine - Spindle Support Dec 2008 - May 2009
• Developed the spindle support for horizontal boring machine in collaboration with Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (India). Designed a working model using Solid Works and tested that using Ansys.
