Took charge of trains and collected documents needed for travel. This entailed contacting the dispatcher, getting paperwork detailing all of the train car loads, and inspecting the locomotive units and cars to make sure they were safe for travel.

Responsible for coordination with Omaha office. Continually communicated our position with the dispatcher as well as other train crews to limit delays and prevent collisions.

Responsible for safe transfer of train and goods while on road or in yard. Inspected train and compared paperwork to make sure that the hazardous materials had been placed in positions satisfactory to FRA regulations.

“Built” (assembled train cars) and maintained trains for transfer. Made sure that the trains built were in the correct order to limit delays on the main line. Checked the cars on the manifest with the cars available in order to ensure loads went to the correct customers.

Operated locomotive units by remote control. Inspected the units and connected the remotes manually. Performed a safety check to ensure the selected remotes were properly linked to the locomotive units. Made sure that the units were properly disconnected from the remotes and placed back under manual control to prevent accidents.
