PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

MINISTRY OF FOOD AND AGRICULTURE (MOFA), GHANA

May 2007 – January, 2012: Regional Agricultural Engineer

• Ensured the management and general administration of MoFA Agricultural/Mechanical Engineering Unit/Workshop (including service technicians, tractor/combine machinery operators and truck drivers) in the region.

• Successfully conducted the field test performance and assessment of a Foton Lovol LV 2 Combine Harvester to adjust the setting to suit the local conditions of region.

• Successfully coordinated the field performance test trial of Vari-mini agricultural machinery to adjust it to the local field conditions of the Region.

• Effectively supervised the operation, maintenance, and management of MOFA vehicles, Foton-LV2 Combine-harvester and agricultural machinery such as Ford 6610 tractors, etc, in the Region.

• Effectively monitored the performance of John Deer, Farmtrac, Landini tractors in the region.

• Coordinate field performance trials on samples of imported/foreign agricultural machinery and equipment and make appropriate recommendation regarding government decision on mass importation.

• Facilitated the after sales services of allocated John Deere, New Holland, Farmtrac, agricultural tractors in the region.

• Advised the Regional Director of Agriculture on agricultural engineering issues.

• Guided farmers and users of agricultural machinery and equipment to select maintain and manage the right type of machinery and equipment for various tillage operations in the production programmes.

• Provided technical advisory services to support technology development and programme implementation at the districts.

• Prepared strategic action plans and reports on Agricultural/Mechanical Engineering activities for the Region.

• Successfully collaborated with ACDI/VOCA ADVANCE (USAID agency) to collate the inventory of all agricultural tractors in the region for appropriate technology development.

• Recovered approximately 50% of debt owned by agricultural machinery buyers to the Ghana Government in the region.

• Installed one 17 and three 6.5 horse power Diesel Water pumps and pipes along the Black Volta River for irrigation for famers in the Region.

• Monitored, and coordinated nine Agricultural Mechanisation Services Centers established through public-private partnership in the Upper West Region towards food security in the region.

• Performed work performance appraisal of Unit staff subordinate staff and facilitated their promotions to the next levels of ranks. This served as a source of motivation and had a positive effect on the work output of the Engineering Unit.

November, 2006 – May 2007: District Agricultural Engineer

• Provided technical advisory services to farmers and stakeholders on appropriate mechanization technologies, post harvest management practices and technologies and soil and water management practices.

• Promoted the usage of agro-processing equipment and storage facilities by farmers in the District.

Accomplishment

• Successfully collated inventory of Agricultural Machinery in the Yendi District

November, 2004 – November, 2006: Assistant Agricultural Engineer

• Supervised implementation of soil and water conservation technologies and management.

• Assessed field for potential sites for groundwater development for agricultural production.

Accomplishment

• Successfully designed manuals to serve as technical guidelines for farmers and other stakeholders in the agricultural industry with other team members

• Designed an animal-drawn harrower for construction, for on-field trials in the Northern region of Ghana.

February – August, 2004: National Service Person, MoFA,

(Food Security and Rice Producers Organisation Project)

• Supervised the repairs and maintenance of water regulatory structures on rice fields.

Accomplishment

Evaluated the erstwhile Lowland Rice Development Project and provided recommendation for consideration in the operation of the Rice Sector Support Project towards the strengthening of the Ghanaian production rice sub-sector as part of a team.

September-October, 2003: Research Assistant (Internship)

• Investigated the storability of woodchips for biomass conversion for the generation of heat energy.

• Determined the efficiency of a photovoltaic water pump using a voltmeter and photovoltaic modules.
