Belize Sugar Industries is a sugar producing factory milling approximately one million tons of sugar cane per year. The process begins by grinding the sugar cane to extract the juices. After all impurities are filtered out, the juice is boiled to convert it into granulated sugar.
Belize Sugar Industries operates its own Machine Shop for manufacturing and repairing the parts for the mill. The shop has approximately 7 lathes ranging in sizes from 5 ½ “to 13” swing. It also has a roller lathe for re-grooving worn rollers used to grind the cane to extract the juice. Other shop equipment includes a planer, a shaper, a slotting machine, a milling machine, boring mill and two radial drills. These are all conventional machines [not CNC machines]. My responsibilities involved working with all the equipment and tools in the machine shop at some point or another. Therefore, I have extensive experience in operating all these machines and tools.
My experience also includes the manufacturing of nuts and bolts of all sizes and denominations, bushings, pulleys, sleeves, neck rings and all accessories pertaining to pumps, motors and all machinery used by the factory. Trash plates were built from scratch. This process included drilling and tapping holes and grooving to specialized dimensions to match mill rollers.
