Present Position:

I am working since about 7 years for the Ministry of Health in Kuwait. My Job title is a preventive medicine doctor.

Education:

My high graduate education began in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Alexandria, Egypt: from 1976 to 1983. I graduated and got my Bachelor degree in medicine and surgery in the year 1983. I passed my training in the same university and after that it was obligatory to serve in distant under-served areas for another year (1984). Shortly after that I moved to a rural health unit in my city El-Fayoum in which I served low socio-economic status population from 1984 to1989. I worked in this unit as a general practitioner [GP] as I was responsible for providing the curative as well as the preventive services. Twenty four employee were working in my unit which provides plenty of services like health office work, anti-dehydration center, mother and child care center, screening tests in the laboratory, sanitation and surveillance for environmental problems, reception facilities, family planning services, preventive medicine like infectious diseases outbreak screening, medical quarantine and vaccinations. Besides, we have outpatient clinic with pharmacy for the basic drug needs. During my stay in the rural health unit I received several training sessions in different areas of medicine such as family planning, vaccination practices, communicable diseases prevention, and administration.

I applied for my residency of specialization and I finished my Diploma of Pediatrics in about two years 1989 and 1990. After I've specialized in Pediatrics I worked in the governmental sector as care provider in mother and child health center for two years. In the year 1992 I've returned to serve in the rural health sector again as a pediatrician in rural health hospital. During this time in the rural and suburban areas I was working with the Holland Program for family planning and I have gotten the medal of achievement being the best unit to stabilize the growth rate. Also, I was working to provide health insurance facilities in the governmental place as well as in my private clinic for both children and adults.

After that, I've been chosen to represent my country Egypt with other four doctors to travel overseas to study Masters of Public Health in USA. In the year 1997, I joined University of California Los Angeles [UCLA] after I've received an intensive course of English and computer basics in Davis town near Sacramento the capital of California. On June 1999 I got the Master Degree of Public Health with especial emphasis in Community Health Science and Mother and Child Health and in area of concentration of International Family Health. I finished two internships over there, one in California Hospital Medical Center, the largest and the oldest hospital in the downtown LA, in which I designed a health education program in the emergency room targeting three common health problems. The second internship with Pico Union Westlake Cluster Network joining a mobile medical unit for outreach services to the low socio-economic status community. In this internship, I practiced the clinical work as a care provider as well as the academic work as a health educator. The first internship was mandatory for the graduation units but the second was elective. During my study in UCLA I've been engaged in several kinds of researches and projects, which was mainly targeting community health problems.

After return to my country I got a degree promotion to be the Director of the Vaccination Program in my city. I was seriously working on the goal of Poliomyelitis eradication in my area hopefully to attain the global Polio eradication by the year 2003. Now, I have been elected from my directors to work as a management specialist with JSI. After working with this organization to decrease the rate of mortality in pregnancy and neonates, I have been chosen as an interpreter and coordinator in the Total Quality workshop in Santa Cruz, California. the workshop was for 3 weeks and successfully attained its desired goal.
