Resume: Michael J. Marinak

Experience Summary: Project Engineer

Possess project experience in the design and construction of new production facilities for several products. Participated in the startup of several new production facilities.

Continued to develop project engineering experience while working for engineering design companies in the San Francisco area. Projects included work in the food industry, pharmaceutical industry and chemical industry.

Served as senior project engineer for the General Chemical Corporation’s Bay Point Works Facility.

No job was too small. Lessons learned from these experiences include the need to scope your project early, generate and continually update a cost estimate and schedule, develop an execution plan and communicate it well.

Experience: Senior Project Engineer 1999-2012

Executed projects for the General Chemical Corporation’s Bay Point Works Facility.

Bay Point manufactures etchants for the General Chemical Electronics Chemicals market. Most of the products are high purity acids. During this time I was responsible for most of the projects done at the Bay Point Plant. Projects ranged from new production facilities to a new storm water system. Budgets for these projects went from $5000 to $3,000,000. Responsibilities included defining the project scope, performing preliminary design, securing quotes for key components of the project, developing a cost estimate and executing the design and implementation of the project. Supervised detailed design for each project. More than one hundred projects were executed during this time.

Experience: Project Engineer 1989-1999

Performed project engineering for engineering design companies.

Worked as a project engineer for several engineering design companies in the San Francisco area. Projects included work in the food industry, pharmaceutical industry and chemical industry. Project budgets ranged from $50,000 to $1,000,000. Relationship with clients was a critical part of this position. Responsibilities included defining the project scope, supervising the preliminary design, interfacing with the client, securing quotes for key components of the project, developing a cost estimate and supervision of the design and implementation of the project. Several plants were built by companies using the design developed from these engineering companies.

Experience: Research Director 1981-1989

Supervised the basic process research on the production of agricultural chemicals and their intermediates.

Directed efforts to develop unique processes for producing agricultural chemical products for Kalama Chemical Company in Kalama, Washington. These products included insecticides, herbicides and fungicides. This work involved supervising small scale reaction studies, product purification and product analysis. Also involved were literature searches and the documentation of this research. For the successful research the next step was drafting patent applications and submitting the final edited version to the US patent office. This research resulted in nine US patents being issued and the successful sale of this technology.

Experience: Production Superintendent/Manufacturing Manager 1974-1981

Supervised seven production facilities at Dow’s Pittsburg plant.

These facilities included a latex plant, four biocide plants and two agricultural chemical intermediate plants. Responsibilities included supervising the operation and maintenance of these plants. Three production superintendents reported to me. They in turn were responsible for the day to day operation of these facilities. Their staff included process engineers, foremen and secretaries. We would interface with project engineers on projects being implemented in the various facilities from time to time. More than twenty operators were employed in running these plants. Served as project manager for several new production facilities that were built and successfully started up during this time. The value of the products from these facilities exceeded $50,000,000 annually.

Experience: Research Manager 1972- 1974

Supervised laboratory and pilot plant research into the development of various organic chemical processes for Dow Chemical’s facility in Pittsburg, California.

Products included agricultural chemicals and intermediates. Other products included were experimental rocket fuels, kidney dialysis devices and pharmaceutical intermediates. Staff included research chemists and process engineers. Also in the group were laboratory technicians, foremen and operators. There were about thirty people in the group. Duties included supervising the chemists and engineers, monitoring the performance of the laboratory and pilot plant and planning the direction of the research.

As a result of this work new processes were developed for key agricultural chemical intermediates. This work resulted in several patents being issued and six production facilities being built for important biocides and agricultural chemical intermediates.

The value of these products exceeded $100,000,000 annually.
