2007 – 3/2011 Argonne National Laboratory Argonne, IL

2009 -2011 Chief Hot Cell Technician, Alpha Gamma Hot Cell Facility

Provided training to technicians in maintenance and operations of a nuclear facility

Performing and supervising the operation, maintenance and repair of in-cell PaR and General Mills robots, master-slave manipulators, shielding doors, and electro-mechanical equipment.

Worked with engineering and fabrication departments to modify off-the-shelf equipment for use in the highly radioactive hot cell environment.

Received a laboratory “Pacesetter Award” for developing a spent nuclear fuel sectioning machine that mitigated several issues associated with original hot cell tooling and decreased the time for each cut by 90%

Supervised hot cell technicians responsible for fissile nuclear material packaging for disposal, waste characterization; chemical, radioactive, RCRA.

Supervised and performed size reduction and packaging spent nuclear fuel for disposal at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant.

Setter-operator of mill, lathe and drill press.

Develop and write procedures for work in hazardous, and non-hazardous environments

2007 – 2009 Senior Hot Cell Technician, Alpha Gamma Hot Cell Facility

Equipment upgrades to bring hot cell from cold shut-down back to operational capability

Performed routine scheduled maintenance on electro-mechanical, air filter (HEPA), and remote operated equipment

1997 - 2007 University Of Chicago Argonne, IL

Mechanical Technical Associate, Advanced Photon Source

Complete mechanical support and maintenance of the facility

Assembly and installation of ultra high vacuum and cryogenic instruments

Clean room work

Support physicists by fabricating and installing experimental systems

Also required to design parts, purchase materials, utilize outside vendors, send work out for bids, follow up with major purchases, and participate in all quality checks of mechanical, vacuum and cryogenic systems.

1990 - 1997 Argonne National Laboratory Argonne, IL

Senior Technician

Involved in multiple projects – fabricating, assembly, testing of detector modules.

Working from blueprints, created drawings/sketches for parts to be made.

Followed progress of jobs through Argonne Machine Shop as well as outside vendors.

Involved in design/layout of water, gas, and air distribution systems for experimental beam lines.

Undertook purchasing of needed material and installation and assembly of above systems.

1988 - 1990 Fermilab National Laboratory Batavia, IL

Technician

Worked on magnet prototypes for the Superconducting Super Collider (SSC) Project. Fabricated, tested and assembled the magnets. Magnetic field measurements, wiring instrumentation to monitor physical characteristics of magnet at cryo-temps under full power, installed Ln2 and LHe cryogenic systems as part of the final assembly process.

Gained extensive rigging experience moving 54ft long 22,000lb SSC prototype magnets with a 30 ton building crane. Fermi has no riggers so all material handling duties i.e. forklift and tow motor operations, were performed by Technicians. Loading and offloading of trucks containing delicate scientific instruments and equipment. Conformed to all safety rules and regulations. Inspected rigging equipment i.e. lifting fixtures, slings (wire rope and nylon loop) for serviceability and had equipment certified when necessary, internally or by private contractor.

Grew familiar with the following: Basic machine shop tools: lathe, mill, drill press, coil winders, etc. Common hand tools: drills, grinders, spot welders. Test Equipment: multimeters, HV test equipment, vacuum pumps/leak check.

1986 - 1988 Bison Gear and Engineering Downers Grove, IL
