I am responsible for scanning upper and lower extremities to rule out deep venous thrombosis. I perform vein mappings of the superficial vessels for pre-op bypass grafts and AVFs. I also perform arterial studies such as carotid artery duplex, evaluation of atriovenous fistulas, pulse volume recordings and renal arteries to rule out renal artery stenosis. When evaluating the for renal artery stenosis, the aorta is Dopplered and both kidneys are measured and evaluated for pathologies.

I also scan renal arteries to rule out renal artery stenosis. After my scanning is complete, I send the pictures to PICOM so the doctor can evaluate my studies. I type up a preliminary report and inform the attending physicians of their patient’s condition. I answer the phones and answer physician/nurse/patient questions by looking up their studies in “Custom Lab” and verify information.

Duties-I examined the lower extremities to rule out deep venous thrombosis and assess veins for the presence of reflux. I educate the patient on the anatomy and physiology of the veins and why varicosities occur. I perform vein mappings on the legs so that the doctor can understand the size, length and path of the vein from my drawing on the skin. I set-up and assist the doctor in the surgical procedures by offering ultrasound-guided visuals. I am also cross-trained in receptionist duties, which includes accounts receivable, checking in patients, and filing, chart making and answering multi-line phones.

Duties- I received the job orders from the office and drove to the nursing homes with the portable ultrasound machine to perform carotid or venous studies. I was responsible for picking up and filling out the proper paper work and taking the appropriate pictures in order for the physician to accurately diagnose the studies. I also down loaded the studies from the ultrasound machine to the computer at the end of the day for the doctor to read.
