EMERGENCY STAFFING SOLUTIONS, INC, Dallas, TX March 2009 to Present
Chief Financial Officer – Emergency Room & Hospitalist Management Company
• Responsible for all financial reporting of operating profit by customer to owner and operations to enable us to make timely and accurate business decisions utilizing the most up to date financial information for each of our client locations.
• Provided oversight on all medical billing and credentialing processes for Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross Blue Shield and other payers for approximate annual revenues of $60 million.
• Provided management of the corporate office of approximately 35 people and an accounting/finance team of 7 individuals responsible for banking and general ledger transactions.
• Successfully identified issues with one of our core billing companies that had cost the organization over $1million in revenues since inception of the relationship. We completed a migration of this business along with over $20 million in accounts receivable to another company.
• Implemented Microsoft Dynamics CRM for our corporate office which streamlined and digitized our operations that were previously 100% paper without any interdepartmental communications.
• Directly responsible for oversight on all active company malpractice claims and other legal matters.
• Responsible for daily cash management and structuring the necessary banking transactions to finance company growth and operations
• Successfully implemented employee incentive programs and an operational budget for each client location that led to increasing operating margins on many of our various accounts by 5% - 8%
• Identified that the organization was applying an incorrect method of accounting to record revenue and successfully completed a change in accounting method with the IRS to reduce audit exposure
• Recognized over $150k in billing errors made by the previous CFO and successfully recovered those funds from our clients
• Streamlined the company’s existing chart of accounts which enabled us to produce more concise financial reports
• Implemented physician payroll program with ADP that reduced the error rate on physician checks to less than 1% (paid approximately 500 physicians per month)
• Reworked all employee health benefits and passed along a 5% premium reduction to employees while providing increased benefits to them. We were also able to put together a program offering health benefits and retirement benefits to independent contractors. This was a highly effective tool leveraged by our recruiters and an offering not currently made by any competitive business in our industry.
• Put in place internal controls to successfully account for physician advances and advance recoveries (the company will advance and recover over $3million per year to various physicians)
• Responsible for oversight of preparation of all annual federal and state tax filings for approximately 20 business entities as well as the owner’s individual income tax return.
• Lead the development of the financial plan of the organization with parameters set by the owner and integrated with the overall strategic plan.
• Developed and implemented a client monthly financial report as well as a monthly physician feedback report that were instrumental in client retention and process improvement of our management programs.
