Experience
The positions listed above in the job history section required the below roles, duties and responsibilities:
- Receipt and gross description of inpatient and outpatient surgical specimens of all types from small biopsies to complex organ resection for cancer treatment
- Specimen orientation and marking of surgical margins prior to obtaining tissue sections
- Selection of appropriate tissue sections to assure adequate evaluation of the specimens and permit complete diagnosis
- Submission of tissue for histologic processing by tissue processor operation
- Performance of frozen tissue sections including cutting and staining
- Interpretation and diagnosis of histologic tissue sections by microscopic examination
- Selection, ordering and interpretation of special stains as needed to provide adequate and correct diagnosis of surgical specimen
- Performance of fine needle aspiration of superficial organs (thyroid, lymph nodes, breast)
- Interpretation of cytologic specimens (pap smears, SNA’s)
- Evaluation and recording of peripheral blood smear examination
- Management of clinical laboratory (general chemistry, microbiology, serology, toxicology, hematology, coagulation and quality assurance, quality control, writing of procedures and policies)
- Performance of hospital autopsy cases to include gross external examination of the body, organ removal, with gross description and gross dissection of body organs followed by selection of tissue sections for submission for histologic preparation
- Composition of preliminary anatomic diagnosis on autopsy cases
- Composition of final anatomic diagnosis on autopsies after microscopic evaluation of submitted tissue sections
- Clinical case consultation with surgeons and physicians as needed for patient care
