Principal Civil/Structural Engineer

(Since June 2009)

Presently working as a Civil / Structural Area Design lead with a team of around 12 / 15 Engineers and designers for all medium & small Projects (Project values between $ 10 M and $ 50 M) in Mining (Aurora mines) area and Extraction / Bitumen Production area of Syncrude. In addition to the above also supporting other major Projects like Base Mine Dam (a major Project of $ 500 M) as a Structural expert.

Duties included:

Leading the team for multiple projects simultaneously by providing guidance and support.

Writing and updating all Structural Project Design Specifications, project definitions, scoping study and front end estimates. Engineering work packages, Material requisitions

Preparing Cost of estimate service, Project quantity estimate, deliverable list and schedule.

Structural Analysis and design of structures using computer software like STAAD, Dyna6 etc.

Preparing scope of work with drawings for topographic survey and geo-technical report according to the project scope.

(May 2006 – May 2009)

Sr. Structural Lead Engineer

Worked in Bantrel Co., Canada, as a Sr. Lead Civil / Structural Engineer, for different units of Shell AOSP Project, Petro-Canada Edmonton Diesel Desulphurization Project and various Projects of Husky Lloydminster unit.

Lead a team of 30 Civil / Structural Engineers and designers for the design of a portion A&V Unit of Shell AOSP Project. The Project value for the Structural work was 70 M. Key features of the project are,

The scope includes tall multistory industrial structures with heavy equipments, pipe racks, heavy vessels and equipment foundations on piles.

All structures were designed as modular structures.

Extensive communication, coordination, engineering, estimate, designing and construction support were part of scope for the above project.

Lead different small to medium size Structural projects (value between $ 10 M and $ 50 M) of Husky Energy, Lloydminster Upgrade (HLU). A few of the Projects done are New Sulphur storage tank foundation, Sour Water Tank foundation and Desalter Skim Tank foundation with connecting piperack, pump shelters and pump foundations.

Lead a team of Structural engineers and designers to design the building foundations with piles, heavy equipment foundations and steel structural module with exchangers and other equipments for EDE Project– Phase 1, 2 in Petro Canada Edmonton Refinery.

Duties for all 3 above Projects includes:

Developed scoping study and finalizing the scope of the project.

Planning of man power and work

Frontend design (DBM) and estimation (MTO preparation) to calculate the valuation of the project.

More accurate estimate of the project (EDS or +/ - 10 %)

Supporting and guiding engineers in design calculation. Developing design guidelines and work book.

Detail engineering and checking of design calculation & drawings.

Attending meetings, coordinating with other departments and with client.

Training and team building.

Coordination and construction support. Replied RFI and FCN raised by site.

Communicated with Geo-technical consultant to accrue all required inputs for foundation design.

Prepared contractor’s scope of works, Purchase orders and excavation permits.

MECON Limited, India

(1987 to 2000)

MECON is one of the largest EPC Company of Indian engaged in execution of Thermal power, Steel, Petrochemicals and Material handling projects in different parts of the world. Joined MECON as a Structural Design Engineer in 1987, promoted to Sr. Structural Engineer in 1992 and Lead Engineer in 1996.

Some of the major projects handled in MECON are as follows,

• Provided design engineering support to construction during Steel Structural Erection of Converter Shop Building of an Integrated Steel Plant (volume of steel structures was 40,000 tons).

• Designed Main Control Room Building (Steel Structural multistoried Industrial Frame Building) for Converted Shop.

• Design Transformer House (30m x 10m x15m building with EOT crane and multiple Transformer foundations).

• Designed pipe racks (6m wide, two tire and total length of around 2km) and foundations.

• Designed Central Compressor House Building (30m X 60 m X 10m high Steel building with 20t capacity EOT crane and multiple compressor foundations).

• Pump House Building (30m x 20m x 10m building with 6 pump foundations and 10t capacity EOT crane)

• Generator House Building (15m x10m x 10m building with Generator foundation, monorail and intermediate platforms).

• Equipment storage Building (Shed type single story building with double bay and 40t capacity EOT crane in both of them)
