MANUFACTURING ENGINEER

· Obtained competitive bids and generated AR for $500,000 building expansion.

MECHANICAL MAINTENANCE ENGINEER

· Exceeded production output by improving, sparing, and repairing the equipment used in the Annealing and Pickling Process of thin gage coiled stainless steel along with the maintenance and improvements of the boilers and compressors.

· Organized and implemented the maintenance and improvement on the Annealing/Pickling Line (AP3), Boiler Room and Compressor Room along with serving on the installation and commissioning project group of AP4.

· Scheduled all of the maintenance and improvement work completed during a production outage on AP3 usually involving several hundred man-hours.

· Completed analysis on the most critical spare parts for the AP3 line and obtained competitive quotes and stocked them accordingly. With an overall cost of $108,000.00 per hour of line down time, there was a significant increase in uptime and efficiency by increasing our supply of critical spare parts.

· Provided technical direction for technicians.

· Implemented necessary modifications to the new boiler installation to allow greater flexibility in the boiler room by adding piping, valves and regulators.

· Implemented a plant air monitoring system to prevent loss and improve efficiency, allowing for the ability to identify if the plant air losses were a result of the air compressors or a leak in the pipes.

· Responsible for the functionality of the mechanical portion of the new Hot Annealing and Pickling line (AP4) for the plant.

· Generated and monitored injection mold PM schedule, ensuring adherence to the schedule, which was critical to maintaining equipment reliability.

· Created processes and modified nine injection molds according to production department specifications, enabling the manufacture of several million optically acceptable parts.

· Led several Kaizen events, applying Lean Manufacturing methodology:

· Saved $70,000 in a reduced production environment by adding two conveyor systems and reconfiguring workstations to allow for one press operator instead of two.

· Reduced the amount of paperwork needed in the molding process by 25%.

· Mapped mold PM process and 5-S’d the tool room, which allowed for a more accurate time frame for mold pm scheduling.

· Mapped and improved the part flow for an entire production department, and eliminated the massive Work In Progress (WIP) room where over 10,000 parts were stored, estimated cost of $20 per lens equals over $200,000.

· Certified Six Sigma Green Belt:

· Participated in initial black belt project for the company, affecting $700K in material savings by changing method of tracking incoming and outgoing material and testing procedures, implemented training programs for quality technicians and inspectors, and implemented several audits.

· Led a Green Belt scrap reduction project in the pressroom that saved $11K in three months in a declining business market.

· Participated as a scrap reduction green belt project team member. Conducted analysis to determine if the start up stabilization time could be reduced in order to reduce scrap. The analysis indicated only 5 shots were needed instead of 20, leading to a yearly savings of 82,000 lenses.
