Dear Sir or Madam,
I am pursuing employment as a commercial construction field superintendent. I have more than 30 years of experience in construction, including the last 14 as a superintendent. For the last six years, I have been employed by a company in Centennial, Colo., with our home office in Chicago. The entire organization was suddenly closed, however, and the entire staff was laid off.
I strongly believe I possess the skills to be a positive addition to your company. I began my career in construction as a painter and paperhanger, with a strong commitment to quality. I have continued that commitment throughout my career as a superintendent and project manager. I believe establishing that same standard of high expectations with the subcontractors in quality, along with maintaining schedules and cost, makes for a positive working relationship.
Much of my success in the construction industry is due to my ability as a strong communicator, as well as my attention to detail on every job. Scheduling can make or break a successful project. I am comfortable with creating and updating project schedules, issuing RFI’s along with holding subcontractor and owners meetings.
I also have a strong concern and respect for safety. While there are those who may feel being safe wastes time, I believe that is an accident waiting to happen. Through weekly tool box talks, subcontractor safety audits, and daily observation to everyone’s PPE, safety can be easily obtained.
I have been fortunate with the diversity of projects, architects, engineers and subs I’ve worked with over the years. I look forward to discussing the future of your company and how I might be a part of it.
Respectfully yours,
Randy Chance

EXPERIENCE
Krahl Construction
2004– 2010
I was a field superintendent overseeing projects ranging from tenant improvements, restaurants, medical and dentistry office space, and recently completed an oncology suite for CU Medical Center. Krahl offered me a position as a project manager which I held for two years. I realized my strengths and my heart were still superintendent work, so I requested to return to the field, which Krahl obliged. I was in the middle of building a car wash when we received the news that Krahl had closed its doors.
Greystar Construction
2002-2004
I worked for Greystar following the tragedy of 9/11. Because of the uncertainty of the economy at the time, I took a position in starting up the concrete division. I operated a slip form machine doing curb and gutter, sidewalks along with cast in place work. I was responsible for scheduling material, manpower and testing. Once the economy stabilized I was able to return to supervision.
DP Construction
2000-2002
I was offered a superintendent position by DP that, financially, I couldn’t refuse. Though the time I spent with them was brief, I was able to complete a few projects ranging from an 80,000 square-feet, multi-floor tenant improvement for McData Corporation, and a tilt wall project in Louisville. Unfortunately, DP was unable to continue in business.
Porter Construction
1995-2000
I started with Porter as an assistant superintendent and was quickly promoted to superintendent.
They started me with smaller projects, and over the years, my jobs grew, eventually
topping the million-dollar mark. I was completing a Bed, Bath and Beyond in Westminster
when I was offered a position with DP Construction.
Wheatridge Painting
1982-1995
I was a lead painter and paper hanger concentrating on custom homes. I was responsible for
ordering material for the projects, overseeing manpower and quality control. I decided that
after 16 years in the painting field I needed to make a change. I started with architectural
classes at Front Range Community College when I was fortunate enough to meet the
Field Ops Manager for Porter Construction, and was offered a position as an assistant
superintendent.
