March ‘09– April ‘12 (shut down due to lack of funding) Development of Heart Valve Bioprothesis

• Engineer for Class 3 medical device, a tissue heart valve under ISO 5840 and ISO 13485.

• Conducted extensive researched on issues relating to design, prior art, and development and used this to implement a new process to chemically treat tissue.

• Oversaw engineering responsibilities for the design of tooling and mechanical/biological parts for the heart valve, including tooling to chemical fix and cut the tissue.

• Work with patent lawyers to file patents on heart valve, processes and tooling.

• Run and own numerous machines, including a prototype injection molding machine, bench-top CNC and catheter heater boxes.

• Contracted with Corpus Medical to develop handle for a prototype steerable catheter and components for a Nitinol braiding machine.

• Designed multiple automotive components for Porsche 911 track car, Chevrolet Corvette track car, and Plymouth Duster.

• Design and development of various projects with tight deadlines, including Covidien Ultrasonic Laparoscopic Instrument, Phillips RTx Endovascular System, EDC Biosystems ATS-100.

• Organized verification/validation test plan for product development, designed versatile test equipment and test protocols

• Helped develop and implement a LabVIEW program for data acquisition and instrument control for an ultrasonic surgical scalpel simulator testing device which worked with a complex testing device.`

• Project/Design engineer responsibilities include making gant charts, setting deadlines, managing technicians to make parts for heart valves, work with quality to produce acceptable parts, engineered prototypes.

• Completed projects by recognizing a need for tools and machines by starting with a concept and moving to design to CAD drawings to CAM programming to CNC machining to prototype and production use.

• Designed a crimping machine that crimps cobalt-chromium stents for heart valves with crimp tubes as small as .0330” OD and .0206” ID.

• Designed a wire bending machine that bends wire into complex 3D shapes for stents. The stents had to keep a fatigue life of 600 million cycles by tests regulated by the FDA.

• Maintained and analyzed fatigue and flow testing equipment.

• Created SOPs, QAs and WIs
