Director Quality Management
Quality Management included the Clinical Documentation Management Team (CDMT) staff, the Medical Staff Office and Quality Management. The CDMT team consisted of RN's that reviewed charts on the floor in real time, Their focus was to ensure that clinical documentation was adequate for coding and to evaluate additional severity coding could be assigned to increase reimbursement. The Medical Staff office included oversight of the credentialing process of physicians as well as the physician performance reporting per Joint Commission requirements.
Oversight of the Quality Management-team. They audited and abstracted charts per CMS requirements for entry into the QI project software. They also abstracted charts for Cardiac Cath and ICD procedures. The department also reported Core Measure and National Patient Safety Goal (NPSG) quality initiatives. Quality Management also performed chart analysis for hospital initiatives. This position also was involved with regulatory compliance with CMS (QI Project and the Illinois Foundation for Quality Healthcare (IFQHC). Responsibilities included operational, salary and capital budgets for two cost centers.
Projects
Point of Origin: Project to ensure the Point of Origin was correctly coded on admission. (Project Leader)
Pneumonia Mortality Study: Project to review and analyze pneumonia mortality statistics for the hospital (Project Leader)
Cost of Poor Quality: Develop a Cost of Poor Quality model for the hospital to be able to track the revenue lost on Hospital Acquired Conditions that CMS would not pay for starting Oct. 1, 2008. The goal of the model was to be able to assign a basic cost set to these non-reimbursed events.
The Joint Commission: Chapter responsibilities include the Performance Improvement and Medical Staff chapters.

Administrative Supervisor Core Laboratory July 2005 to May 2007
Core Lab Supervisor with a primary focus on administrative duties. These duties include assisting in the preparation of the annual supply budget, making recommendations for the FTE budget and preparation of a justification for any increases or decreases. This position also required working with procurement and contract vendors to obtain the best pricing. It also assisted in the projection of capital and operating expenses. This position also included the preparation of schedules, verifying timecards and maintaining employment records. This position was also directly involved in preparing employee evaluations, interview and selection process. The administrative supervisor also maintained all employment training and competency records as required by regulatory agencies.
Projects and Committees
The Joint Commission: Designed the process for the hospital during the first two hours of a Joint Commission unannounced survey. Created the scrip for the staff to follow regarding the notification of key personnel. Designed the command center, used by the hospital staff for tracking the-surveyors during the on-site inspection. Included were training guides, job descriptions and procedures.
Coordinator of the Pathology Laboratories Quality Management program. This includes training pathology staff in the quality processes, coordinating monthly meetings and preparing the monthly and annual reports.
Created and prepared the monthly pathology TQM reports for the emergency department. This report analyzes the pathology turnaround times, contamination rates and specimen quality.
Coordinator of the Document Control program for the three Core Labs. This program included the unification of procedures from multiple versions and locations into a single universal procedure. The manual tracking and signature processes were converted into an electronic monitoring and tracking process. Program implementation included training staff in the new procedure writing processes, document control processes and the use of Word 2003.
Chemical Safety Officer for the Pathology Laboratory system. Pathology Safety committee. Coordinator for fire drills, Environment of Care officer. Developed the Chemical Hygiene program.

Pathology Clinical Resource Specialist
This position was designed to apply project management skills for certain departmental projects. This position relied on developing, coordinating and the subsequent implementation of the projects. Included was developing Blood Gas lab equipment for Point of Care testing and interfaces.
Projects and Committees
Re-structured the Quality Assurance program to meet new criteria as established by regulatory agencies for the laboratory. This included designing new report formats, re-structuring the reporting process. and creating new quality report cards.
Y2K Hospital Trainer: Conducted Y2K training classes for hospital staff in Y2K procedures and data gathering. Y2K Coordinator for the Pathology Laboratory program and contingency procedures.
Developed the Radiometer/ Radiance Interface to the Misys LIS. Developed the Radiance training program for technologists. Trained the Blood Gas Lab staff on the use of the ABL700/720 blood gas analyzer. Advised the Blood Gas Lab staff on the operations of the analyzer. Oversee the operations of the Radiance to Misys interface and the Radiance Server.
Designed and coordinated the construction projects for the installation of the Abbott Work-Cell (Hematology) and Beckman automated track systems, Serology Laboratory, Point of Care office, Walk-in refrigerators and dry storage spaces.
Conducted workflow analysis of phlebotomy activities. Compiled a review of phlebotomy collection-and operational patterns. Created a proposal for suggested changes including workflow,computer and organizational changes.
Lead a laboratory committee to update the design of the pathology internal and external web sites. This project included designing and incorporating a five step process for implementation. This project included: identification of customers and needs, web architecture, content development, validation process and production. Learned to use the MedSeek Web product as well as Microsoft's Front Page.
College of American Pathologists site inspector. I have been involved in the inspection of Blood Gas Labs, Point of Care Labs, General Laboratory, LIS information systems, Molecular Biology Labs and Toxicology Labs.

Supervisor Chemistry
The focus of this position was technical supervisor for the chemistry laboratory. I was involved in all phases of the chemistry laboratory. This included a strong emphasis on analyzer installation, interfacing and method validation.

Coordinated construction projects including fire sprinkler installation and room renovations (electrical, HVAC, pluming and networks).
