Education Texas A&M University, College Station, TX September, 2012

Master of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering,

Wuhan University of Technology, Wuhan, China 9/2004-6/2008

Bachelor of Science in Heat Energy and Power Engineering, GPA: 3.7 Rank: Top 3%

Research Experience

Turbomachinery Laboratory, Texas A&M University 9/2010 to present

Research Assistant

Project: Thermal Effect of Floating Ring Bearing on the Turbocharger used in Passenger Vehicles (sponsored by Honeywell Turbo Technologies)

Performing analysis of floating ring bearings with enhancements in heat transfer model; Adding prediction of external excitation capability and frequency response modeling capability.

Optimizing the algorithm to consider the load balance and coupling the heat flow into the calculation of pressure distribution, leading to much faster convergence.

Implementing in Fortran to calculate the temperature distribution of fluids with the control volume method coupled with the pressure distribution solved by FEM.

Course Project Designer (Advanced Product Design)

Project: Design of the Packer Test Retrieving Tool (sponsored by Halliburton)

Designed a device to retrieve the packer non-destructively from a test chamber and allow simulation of the retrieving process.

Worked with 3 team members to generate 26 novel and practical designs in a systematic process.

Used the SolidWorks and the physical models to visualize the optimum ideas.

Shanghai Automotive Wind Tunnel Center in Tongji University, China 9/2008- 6/2010

Research Assistant

Project: Design and Analysis of Gas Exchange and Valve Actuating Mechanism & Simulation of Lubricating System for 1.8L Gasoline Engine with VCT (sponsored by SAIC Group)

Responsible for valve train design, including

valve timing, cam contour, kinematic and dynamic issues, etc.

built the valve mechanism model by AVL-Excite tool, and optimizing the relevant parameters with the genetic algorithm.

Co-simulated with AVL-Boost to achieve better performance for the engine, increasing 13% in charging efficiency.

Used CATIA to visualize the prototype of the valve mechanism.

Project: YC4E170-31 Diesel Improvement and Performance Test for abnormal conditions

Cooperated with National Center of Supervision and Inspection on Motor Vehicle Products Quality (Shanghai) (sponsored by Yuchai Group)

Built prototypes of the redesigned exhaust system by CATIA, and modeling the gas flow condition by co-simulating with FLUENT.

Conducted engine benchmark test on SCHENCK DYNA-400 transient dynamometer to measure performance of a diesel engine soaked in water.

Exported the data from the test results to generate the engine MAP (torque-speed-oil consumption).

College of Automobile Engineering, Wuhan University of Technology 2/2008-6/2008

Undergraduate Project Designer

Project: Study of the Torque-based Control Strategy in EFI

Designed a control strategy to realize torque management, various controls for different driving conditions such as idling and cruising.

Built a simulation map for strategy using Matlab-Simulink, to realize the electronic throttle control (ETC) by the PID module.

Learnt the mechanics of various sensors such as knock sensors, air flow sensors, temperature sensors, etc.

Internship Experience

PSA Peugeot Citroen Group: PSA China Technical Center 5/2009-8/2009

Serviced Global Sourcing of Procurement Department, inquired quotations for the power-train components from the suppliers in Great China Region, Japan and Korea for the PSA headquarter in France.

VOLVO Trucks in China 5/2006-8/2006

Led 3 team members to compile technical documents about an introduction to the main parts in automobiles and the engine operating principles to support the HR Training Department.
