As Special Needs Teacher/Testing (Part-Time) Maxwell Federal Prison, Taking orders directly from the Literacy Coordinator, I am responsible for assessing inmates who demonstrate signs of learning disabilities and have repeatedly failed the GED. They are formally evaluated (utilizing adult assessment tools) and I interpret the results. I make a diagnosis and it is verified by the prison psychiatrist: the accommodations are noted and a report is sent to the State Department of Education requesting permission to make accommodations for the inmate to take the GED again according to his specific learning disability. Prior to the report being sent, I utilize the computer software for each assessment tool to compile the data. The report is checked for grammatical errors, clarity, and signatures are obtained from the inmate and various staff persons.
