Resume:

Dr. ABHIJIT SAMANTA

PhD, Applied Chemistry

M.Sc, Physical Chemistry

I have carried out my research as a research associate (from March, 2011 to August, 2011) in the Department of Petroleum Engineering at Texas A&M University at Qatar under the guidance of Dr. Prabir Daripa, Texas A&M University, College Station and Dr. Anuj Gupta, Texas A&M University at Qatar. I have worked on the formulation of best Alkali-Surfactant-Polymer (ASP) solution for Qatar oil field and development of possible ASP flooding code by mathematical modeling. My research work is also focused on interfacial surfactants on their interfacial tension and fluid flow through porous media flow in enhanced oil recovery. These studies develop an appropriate Langmuir equation for surfactants. The addition of various species (like polymer, surfactant, alkali, salts) in the displacing fluid and various flooding strategies has been extensively utilized in order to improve oil recovery.

In my PhD work I have carried out my research work on “Studies on Characterization of Alkali-Surfactant-Polymer System and its use in Enhanced Oil Recovery”. I have completed my PhD in Applied Chemistry under the joint guidence of Prof. Ashis Sarkar, Professor, Department of Applied Chemistry and Dr. Ajay Mandal, Associate Professor, Department of Petroleum Engineering, Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad, India. In addition to my PhD work, I have thoroughly worked on the physicochemical properties (e.g. Measurement of Interfacial tension, Rheological study of polymer etc.) of different Alkalis (NaOH, Na2CO3, and NaCl etc.), Surfactants (SDS, SDBS etc.) and Polymers (Polyacrylamide, Partially Hydrolysed Polyacrylamide, Xanthan gum, Guar gum etc.) and its optimization conditions for use in Enhanced Oil Recovery. I have also extracted a purified eco-friendly natural surfactant (in solid state) from Soap nut for Enhanced Oil Recovery.

To contribute through dedication, hard work and sincerity towards the overall growth of the organization wherein I get the opportunity of employing my academic, technical and scientific knowledge and prove my credentials as a reputed professional.
