• Deploy Fire & Safety personnel to monitor and maintain safety onboard ships under repair, fire prevention inspections, and response to fire and emergencies and oil spillage;

• Work with the yard’s Medical Officer on Occupational Health Control (e.g. Hearing Conservation, Respiratory Protection Program and Hygiene Monitoring Programs);

• Determines unsafe and unhealthful working conditions at areas inspected and identifies hazardous work areas. Discussed in the daily meeting with the Production Engineers and carried out plan to eliminate the hazards;

• Investigate and prepare reports of occupational injuries, property damage, occupational diseases to gather essential facts to identify cause factors, determine trends. Prescribes or initiates actions to prevent recurrence of any increase in the type of trend. Investigate and report all accidents, recommend corrective actions and verify that approved corrective actions are taken.

• Monitors hazardous worksites and conditions for the control of personnel exposure to occupational health and environmental hazards. Prepares work procedures/Task risk assessment for hazardous work activities. Determines engineering controls, personal protective equipment and removal procedures and other requirements in hazardous work activities.

• Monitor the implementation of Permit to Work System (PTW) in the field; carry out periodic assessment and auditing, to ensure the system effectiveness and its fundamental suitability in practice. Investigate environmental pollution incidents;

• Enforce safety rules and stop any work or operation that violate any safety procedure or instruction, or would endanger life or property;

• Conduct safety induction and basic fire fighting training to newly hired personnel, subcontractor and visitors;

• Acts as Secretary in the Yard & Sub-contractor Safety and Environment committee meeting;

• Assist the Ship Repair Manager/Project Manager in the implementation of the Vessel’s Safety Management Plan and safe work procedures on board ship;

• Deploy Safety Officers and Safety Supervisor to monitor and maintain safety, prevent and fight fires, respond to accidents and control environmental pollution.
